Unlike Friday night, the weather cooperated Saturday evening as the RE/MAX Legends Cars and Bandolero Cars returned to action after two weeks of "traveling" to PBG Tour shows at different tracks.
Andy Logan and Jimmy Norman won the twin Legends Car heat races and occupied the front row for the 25 lap feature. Logan jumped out to an early lead and continued to set the pace until caution flew for the first time on lap six for a tangle between Dean Moslow and Charlie O'Melia. Moslow kept going but O'Melia took his car to the pits.
On the restart, Rick Wetmore and Wild Willie Wilson locked horns and crashed hard into the front stretch wall. Both cars were done for the night but the drivers were OK.
Logan continued to lead but caution was back out again on lap eight as Shaughn McCormick and James Rodriguez tangled and went into the turn one wall.
Again both drivers were just fine with McCormick finished for the evening while Rodriguez continued.
Logan continued to hold Norman at bay until the field was slowed once again on lap 14 as Moslow looped his car in turn two. Following the restart, Norman began to really put the pressure on Logan, pulling even with him as the five laps to go signal was given only to see Bryan Beland spin in turn four to bring out the caution once again. During the caution period, Fourth running Eric Eichelberger had to take his car to the pits due to a loose bumper. Rodriguez also retired from the event at this point.
Logan was able to keep Norman at bay once the green reappeared to score his first win of the year in his Murray Logan Construction sponsored machine. Norman settled for second after a great run while Mike Verhaagh also had a good run for third. Alex Kempf took the checker in fourth while Mark Bibeau had his best main event finish of his career in fifth.
Dalton Bergman made his first start of the year and came home sixth ahead of Leonard Hearndon, Gary Verdier, Dallas Ingram and Bryan Beland as only ten of the 17 starters finished.
There was plenty of great racing in the Hearndon Construction Bandoleros starting with a good field of Bandits being topped by Critter Saile but he was shadowed the entire distance by Zoey Guignardi. North Carolina visitor Stephen Bergh took the checker in third but was set down in tech due to a rules violation. That moved Shawn Hooven up to the third spot ahead of Zach Harris, Justin Bechtold, Coty Bibeau, Leighton Hearndon and Daniel Conlin. Saile also won the heat race.
Donovan Ponder grabbed the lead from heat winner Gerald Campbell near mid race and went on to take his first Young Gun win since moving up to the class.
Campbell held on for second over Bruce Bennett and Kaleb Hearndon. Heat winner Rob Reynolds was forced to start in the rear of the field in the ABC Towing Hurricane feature after the field was inverted from the heat race finish. William Hindman looked like a sure winner in this race as he got around early leader Mark Walls and was pulling away until his car slowed late in the going allowing Reynolds to make the pass and go on to victory. Hindman coasted across the stripe in second just ahead of David Leeper II, Richard Barrenchea and Doug Webb. Rounding out the finishers were Brian Townson, Miguel Barrenchea, Gary Thomas, Jimmy Scripter, Mark Walls, Chris Mogle, Tom Stewart and Brian Cosier.
Matt Covington had built up a huge lead in the Outlaw Strictly Stock feature but his car began smoking and the caution flag was put out for it to be checked out by track officials. Unfortunately for Covington, his machine had developed a major oil leak and he was sent pit-side. That put heat race winner Robert Remus out front and he held on to take the win ahead of Bobby Jones, "Rudedog," Joe Arnold, Covington and Gilbert Steele.
John Smith topped Wayne Skinner in the Classic Cars while the Junior Stock winner was Jason Rosarius.
