Charlotte County Motorsports Park had an action filled evening on Saturday, 24 February. It all started with an on track wedding between Shane Moore, driver of the #24 JunkYard Dog and Evelyn Lucas. 3 IMA KART Races and Fast Mini-Cups followed it.
The JYD’s ran a 25 lap feature race with #33 Les Couch taking the checkered flag ahead of #21 Randy Kyle, and #6 Mike McCarson. Newly married Shane Moore ran 7th which is unusual for him but he probably had wedding night “jitters.”
Fast Kids ran an exciting race as always with 14 year old #36 Ross Chastain leading the field to a win with #4 Patrick Fox and #74 Seth Greco right on his heels.
Pro Trucks #10 Jason Vail, age 15 picked up the win in this 9-truck field. Fast qualifier Bill Vandevender #84 ran second and #83 Tom North third.
Super Stocks ran 35 laps with an 11-car field. # 7 L.B. Skaggs started in the back of the pack and took the checkered flag only to be DQ’d in tech. #4 Don Justice won and #23 George Richardson second.
Road Warriors, the backbone of good ole fashioned racing once again gave us a GR8 show. The final lap of this 25-lap feature brought the fans to their feet. #48 Cory Scott took the checkered flag overtaking the hard charging #09 of Donnie Ollie Jr. and the #3 of Terry Price. Now for the BADDEST LM in Florida, 19 cars showed up for this event with Mike Franklin #12 fast qualifier, and Randy Fox #4 second fast.
Bobby Diehl upped the winner’s purse by allowing the first two volunteers in the top 10 to start in the rear and if one of them won he’d pay a bonus. Franklin and Fox accepted the challenge.
This race was one of the best at CCMP as of this date. #59 Dustin Dunn led the first 50 laps and than we had the “Big One” with the #26, #62, #21, and# 78 involved in turn 4. After clean up it was Dunn, Ferri, Franklin, and Fox front runners fighting it out.
On lap 67 Franklin and Fox took the lead and in the end it was Dean Ferri #100 placing third, Randy Fox #4 placing second, and the BADDEST LM tonight was the #12 Mike Franklin who enjoyed a nice BONUS payday.
