Semi-Racing, Figure Eight Boat Racing Add Excitement to Charlotte Night
by Bill Green
The Thunder Trucks responded in force to the "Bonnie Scott" Memorial race. Twelve of the full-size tailgate totters came to the green and 35-laps later it would be Jeff Thurman being congratulated by Ray Scott in Victory Circle. Second in the Memorial run was "Bullet" Bob Charette, followed by Randy Kyle third, Tom Carlough fourth and Andy Pryor fifth.
Ray Scott is a long time Charlotte County Motorsports Park supporter and racer. The loss of his long time companion and wife has not been easy. Saturday Night, Ray choked-up when Bonnie was mentioned during driver introductions. But, as we pray we all can when put in his shoes, he drove on.
Super Stocks saw Brian Richardson sweep the single heat required and feature event, with Eric Smith second and Clete Trimmer third. Fourth went to Ryan Pancoast, with George Richardson rounding out the top-5 in fifth.
The Junk Yard Dogs picked up new sponsorship for their class, with Action Glass coming on board for 2007. The first Action Glass feature was won by Shane Moore, beating a sought 16 car field for the win. Second went to Randy Kyle over third place finisher, Kyle Eash. Fourth had Scott Akins besting fifth place finisher Jason Carter.
OH, Warriors... Road Warriors started 11 cars and had a great race on from green to checkered. Donnie Ollie JR, bettered the field as he won the feature, but a close second went to Cory Scott, chased by Terry Price. Bob Waltz settled for fourth, with Mike Nelson salvaging fifth. Reminder: Rubbing is Racing, but Beating and Banging, are so much more fun to watch. Great job Warriors.
The Semi-Truck Figure-8 Challenge got the crowd on their feet. Heritage Transport pitted it's bob-tails against Nanna Trucking's long-haul chariots for some real crossing the intersection fun. Ten, breath stealing laps later it would be the yellow Freightliner semi-truck of Mango Man on top, as all the big trucks celebrated on the front stretch.
Figure-8 Boat Races are always a crowd pleaser, as the normally sea-going yachts are strapped on trailers behind race vehicles for an amazing race that is half figure-8 intersection drama and demolition Derby. The 4-Cyl Boat Fig-8 was won by the #77 of James Dellea . An equally exciting V8 Figure-8 race was won handedly by the #8 of Mike Bialecki.
