(Feb.3rd,2007) Charlotte County Motorsports Park started the 2007 season with a renewed since of community and determined to build for the future of racing. The "Winter Heat" series of races came to an end on Saturday Night with John Kidwell sweeping the Pro races and Ross Chastain out scored Matt Cohen for the Fast Kids title.
The Winter Heat Championship covered three different weekends of racing and gave teams an opportunity to shake down their new 2007 equipment and still be able to challenge for the combined title. Even the regular classes that will be running CCMP week in and week out, were involved in this years events.
"The early testing of the new motors and our new chassis, was what drew us to the events." stated one Miami based team member.
New Charlotte County Motorsports Park owner Bobby Diehl seemed happy with the over all result. "We would have liked to have seen more Pro Trucks supporting the events, but the Fast Kids response was fantastic. And the Junk Yard Dogs, Road Warriors, Thunder Trucks, Sportsman and even fan races where great turnouts for an early season program."
This weeks races saw the CCMP Sportsman cars in action, with the #19 of Dale Dean beating out L. B. Skaggs for the win. While Skaggs settled for second, Joe Shaver held on for third and Kevin Brickley and John Garrett rounded out the top-5.
The Road Warrior class showed last week that they could run with the newly formed Outlaw Street Stock class and this weeks racing was just as exciting as Shane Leonard held off Terry Price and Donnie Ollie for the win. Price and Ollie were second and third respectively, with Cory Scott fourth and the ladies favorite Ann Marie Bicardi beating the other eight cars for fifth.
The Thunder Truck full size pick-up class seems to be growing each week as new trucks are out for evey event so far. This week it was the B-52 of Larry Ballard, Jr. besting the field. Craig Amboyan took second, followed by James Wright third, Ray Scott fourth and David Moore fifth.
Super Stocks got an opportunity to WOW! the crowd, with George Richardson taking the win. Second went to Ryan Pancoast, as Clete Trimmer held on for a third place finish. Donald Ollie held off Brian Richardson for fourth, leaving Brian to claim the final top-5 spot.
Last, but surely not least, were the wild and crazy Junk Yard Dogs 4-cylinder cars showed that rubbing, is racing, as Shane Moore took another victory in 2007. Ryan Meiser wheeled his way to second, putting Chris Lucas into the third spot. Fourth out of the economic class would be Dave Malmberg, Sr. with Les Couch enjoying a fifth place finish.
NEXT WEEK (Feb.10th,2007) at CCMP, fans will see the Special VALENTINE's EVE OF DESTRUCTION a "Motorsports Night of Madness" program. Including the Junk Yard Dogs, Thunder Trucks, Super Stocks and so much more it's impossible to write it all down.
