LAKE CITY, FL (9/23) - Round six of the Brown Motorsports Summer Spectacular series for the Hobby Stocks saw Scotty Nolan lead the pack wire to wire and earn his third victory in the series. Nolan's win wasn't dominant by any means as John Ward, Timmy Roach, and Sammy Hatcher ran nose to tail and took turns unseating the #18. Roach's #R-1 broke midway while Ward and Hatcher battled each other towards the end which allowed Nolan to walk away at the checkers. The finishing order was Nolan, Ward, Hatcher, Heath Walker, and Chris Waldron.
Kenny Blair blasted past polesitter Joe Watson and looked great in leading fourteen laps of the Modified feature. The problem for Blair is that the feature was fifteen laps and the final lap determines the payout. Carlton Allen a nice pass on the last circuit to steal the prize from Blair. Following Allen and Blair at the line was Watson, Kyle Owen, and Mark Padgett.
Michael Havard drove Frank Premorel's #7 to the lead on lap two of the Pure Stock feature and appeared to have matters well in hand towards yet another victory. Chris Rowe locked into a battle with Rick Reed that was settled on the ninth lap with Rowe gaining the upper hand. Rowe chased Havard, but was many lenghts behind and appeared to be destined for second when Havard got caught in traffic on the last lap. Rowe had momentum and found a lane between Havard and the lapped cars to swipe the lead coming out of turn four and earn his first victory of the year. Rowe was followed by Havard, Reed, Jesse Sullivan, and Ted Harding.
Keith Philman raced to the lead in Street Stocks and enjoyed his moment in the spotlight racing uncontested until a caution on lap nine brought the field together and placed the #44 of Dean Sands directly behind Philman. Sands, who has thirteen feature wins at NFS in 2006, did all he could to attain the throne, but Philman never allowed the #44 a lane inside and pulled off a six-lap defense of his spot to earn his first win of the year. Nick Reid made a late race pass on Dewey Hall to earn third. Scott Spears rounded out the top five.
Russ Heider led the Mini Sprints for the first half of the race but could not hold off Andrew Griffin for the entire distance and lost the lead on lap eleven. Griffin easily outdistanced the pack and won his second race in a row. Heider was equally dominant in finishing second well ahead of third place Greg Skyta, who had to fight off fourth place finisher Jesse Teed and fifth place finisher Matthew Wilson to earn the final podium spot. The Mini Sprints drew another good field of cars and put on another good show for the fans at NFS.
Brian Scott passed Dewey Hall on the tenth lap and held on for the win in Limited Sportsman. Eddie Gainey was the best of the rest and was followed by Hall, Gene Owen, and David Ponton.
Saturday night is "Run What You Brung" night for street-legal cars at North Florida Speedway.
