Bradenton, Fl. The racing was as hot as the weather at the “South’s Fastest Short Track” this past Saturday night.
The two main features of the evening were the 100-lap Q Auto and Injury Attorneys Open Wheel Modified race with John Sarppraicone Jr. in only his second race of the year taking fast time. Also featured on the evenings card was the 50 lap Pro Truck shoot-out. Jeff Firestine edged out Todd Bontrager for the fast time in that event.
Q Auto and Injury Attorneys OWM When the green dropped it was Sarppraicone who jumped out to the lead with Jefferson right on his back bumper. In what looked like a replay from the last big Modified race except with the positions swapped the race was on. But after several laps the leaders window net fell down and as the Black Flag came out debre on the racetrack brought out the yellow. Sarppriacone dove into the pits to get the net up but would start from the rear of the field on the restart. His troubles would not end there as he battled back up through the field and was challenging for the third spot he went around bringing out the yellow and once again would go to the rear of the field.
Up front Jefferson drove away from the rest of the field and cruised to the win, second went to Bobby Baldwin, third was Tate Pierce, Sarppriacone would come back to finish fourth and fifth went to Ralph Bowman.
Clear Channel Bombers Once again the Bomber class had the fans on their feet with the three and four wide racing through out the field. Michael Crooks A.K.A. “the Punisher” who has had some strong runs going this season was moving up through the field when Sean Cavanaugh got loose coming out of turn four. As Crooks mashed the gas Cavanaugh made contact with the rear of Crooks. “The Punisher” was turned sideways and slammed head on into the wall with a sickening thud. The crowd rose to their feet as Crooks exited his damaged racecar to the relief of fans and family of the popular driver.
When the green came back out it was three way battle for the lead with Randy “this ain’t your Daddy’s Olds” Johnson coming out on top, James Crawford took the second spot over Milena Firestine who had a solid run for third, fourth was “Pistol” Pete Barr and fifth was “Radical” Rick Germony.
DeSoto Pro Truck Shoot-Out Todd Bontrager held off fast qualifier Jeff Firestine to continue his winning ways in the truck series. Firestine settled for the second spot, third Mike Bailey, fourth was Danny Anderson with Jason Deaton taking fifth.
