Charles Parsons is making a serious run for a Super Stock points title at Charlotte County Speedway.
The driver of the 15 car out of Fort Myers padded his points lead by taking the checkered flag in Saturday nights 25-lap feature at the Punta Gorda 3/8-mile paved oval.
Chris Grubb was second in the 12 car. The defending champion suffered a blow April 8 when he was disqualified for purposely stopping on the track to create a yellow.
That helped Parsons to a 170 point lead over Grubb heading into action.
There was another quality car in the mix Saturday night, as Brian Richardson made his first appearance of the year in the 56 car. Richardson, a former champion, settled for third.
In Road Warrior, two drivers came into Saturday nights action tied for the lead in points Ann Marie Ricardi and Jesse Gargus. Ricardi now has the lead by her lonesome after taking third in the 25-lap feature. Gargus had his problems and finished back.
Bob Waltz Sr. was the winner in the 5 car. He passed Ricardi on lap 17. Shane Leonard closed fast for second. The No. 3 man in points Bob Waltz Jr. did not have the 8 Ball at the track Saturday.
In Thunder Trucks, Don Van Acker outdueled Richard Dupont for the checkered. The two raced side by side for several laps, wowing the crowd. James Wright was third in the 6 truck. Mike Bialeckis No. 8 truck was not racing.
In Junkyard Dogs, Kyle Smith won the 25-lapper. The race was delayed for 45 minutes as a wreck on lap 1 saw the 19 car of Heather Janik hit the turn 3 wall hard. The 16-year-old from Englewood was taken away via ambulance with a possible leg injury. Ryan Colver finished second, while Les Couch took third.
The guest division was TQ Midgets. Ernie Teed Jr. captured his third straight feature win. Ted Durfee was second and Jack Duffy was third. Alan Eash had his 25 car flip on the back straightaway on lap 5.
In the celebrity DJ race, Lee Shannon, a retired voice from WCCF, won an exciting 10-lapper over competitors from Kix Country, Cat Country and the Beach.
On April 15, there will be Sportsman, Outlaw Figure 8s and Easter goodies for the kids.
