By Jane Smith
Samsula, Fla. (February 12, 2006) Night 3 of the World Series of Asphalt Stock Car Racing proved to be very, very cold. The racing was good but the weather was almost too cold for fans to brave.
Once again A.J. Curreli put his No. 2 Late Model upfront and took the checkered for the Late Model division. Curreli, who now has two wins under his belt, seems to be on rails lately. Once again it was Rich Clouser taking second followed by Doug Moff, Mike Murphy and Ray Parent. Monday night, the Late Models go for 50 laps.
Jerry Symons, Friday night's winner, had the pole for the FL/IMCA Mods but it was Tank Tucker who decided it was his turn to visit Victory Circle. Symons took the early lead but Tucker had other plans taking the lead from Symons and as they say, never looked back. Following Tucker to the checkered was Jerry Symons, Jared Allison, Rodney Brooks, and Denis Pierce.
Sunday night's Super Late Model action saw something that seldom happens, Wayne Anderson on his roof and on fire. Anderson quickly put the fire out once his car stopped sliding and was okay. But it was young Landon Cassill who took the win from the pole. Jeff Choquette gave Cassill a good run but was never able to pass Cassill. Following Cassill to the checkered was Jeff Choquette, John Ryan Fitzpatrick, Travis Kittleson and Trevor Stewart.
The TBARA Outlaw Winged Sprints had a rough night with a number of cautions in their 30 lap feature.causoing the race to be shortened to 24 laps after a red flag for Keith Butler who took a wild ride. Butler was transported to the hospital and released and will be in action Monday night. Winning the shortened feature was Dave Steele, the 2005 TBARA Champion followed by Shane Butler, Ray Bragg, Scott Adema, and Troy DeClaire.
Jim Smith had the pole for the Mini Stock feature and lead for a number of laps. Robbie Yoakam and Carolina driver Randy Freeze put on a great show for second going side-by-side with Freeze taking over but Yoakam coming back to lead the most important lap, the last lap. Crossing the checkered after Yoakam was Randy Freeze, Jim Smith, Tim "Missleman" McPhail, and Pedie Allison.
Monday night a 50 lap Late Model race with the TBARA Outlaw Winged Sprints making their final appearance of the 40th World Series of Aspahlt Stock Car Racing along with the FL/IMCA Modifieds, NASCAR Tour Mods, SK Mods, and Mini Stocks.
