Moyer Wins Second Night of Late Model Action at East Bay Raceway Park
by Terry Young

Tuesday, February 7, 2006
GIBSONTON, Fla. -- As Night #2 was to get underway for the 30th Annual WINTERNATIONALS at the beautiful and lightning fast EAST BAY RACEWAY PARK hosted by the LUCAS OIL Dirt Late Model Series, 90 cars passed their way through the tech line and drew for qualifying positions.

Just as hot laps sessions were about to get underway a light mist set in over the track. After the track was rolled back in, qualifying got underway. With the track not to some drivers liking who had early numbers, they chose to miss their original spot in the qulaifying order, go 1 l;ap at the end and see where the chips would fall.

This seemed to be a good plan as some of the last cars out turned the fastest qualifying times. Donnie Moran recorded the FAST TIME honors with a lap of 15.438 as one of the last cars to qualify.

Heat races were won by Clint Smith over Donnie Moran, Anthony Rushing over Davey Johnson, Billy Moyer over Scott James, Dale McDowell over Gerald Davis, Rick Eckert over Shannon Babb, Brady Smith over Dennis Erb, Earl Pearson over Chub Frank and Dave Scott over Terry Casey.

The consi events were topped by Doug Horton over Tim Fuller, Brian Birkhofer over Anthony White, Tim McCreadie over Matt Miller and Steve Hillard over Steve Casebolt.

The feature rolled onto the track with Rick Eckert and Dale McDowell leading the pack from the front row and McDowell rolled to the point in the opening laps. The first caution would fly on Lap 3 as Chub Frank stopped with a flat. After an aborted restart which eliminated several cars in turn 1 as the red was unfurled over the field with the track completely blocked, McDowell was back to the point on the next attempted restart only to have the caution displayed again as Eckert got sideways on the backstretch and contact was made with Billy Moyer which ended with Eckert having a flat.

After the restart McDowell lead with Earl Pearson and Moyer in hot persuit. McDowell would lead the pack until lap 26 when Moyer made the pass for the lead and never looked back.Following Moyer at the stripe were McDowell, Pearson, Rushing, Moran, Smith, Scott, Clint Smith, Horton and Erb.

Moyer was driving a C.J. Rayburn chassis owned by his father Bill Moyer with sponsorship from CAR CITY, Watters Autoland, Banner Valley Hauling, Petroff Towing, Sunoco Race Fuels, Hoosier by Pup, and powered by a PRO POWER Engine.
