The night after being featured in the television hit, NASCAR 360 was picture perfect for racing at the ASA Sanctioned Bronson Motor Speedway.
The Pro Truck race featuring Matt Martin led off the first segment of the show. Several times during the segment the speedway, staff, and fans were featured in the shots of the night’s racing.
It was great exposure for the speedway and the entire community. Reruns of the show can be seen on the FX network throughout the season. As for the action at the speedway Saturday night, it was “lights out”.
There was superb racing in all the Bronson Racing Series events. Mother Nature cooperated and the rain stayed away, as the whole show was completed in a timely fashion.
As usual, the Modifieds started off the night’s festivities. On the start the outside line was the fast groove on the track. Three of the outside row starters inherited the top spots after lap one. Chip Owen was the early leader showing the way for the first third of the event. Unfortunately, Gene Owen would soon power his racer to the front. He led the rest of the way to the finish of the race. Buddy Hughes did a stellar job recovering from a mechanical problem in practice to finish second. Chip Owen hung on for a top three finish.
The Hungry Howie’s Sportsman were the next to power onto the speedway. Twelve Sportsman cars took the green flag for their feature. Donnie Roberts had his new ride on the front row for the start of the race. Roberts was able to hold the top spot for the first six circuits. Once again, Rob Cooper made a strong inside move work to take the lead. He paced the field to the finish in his Bronson Lube #98. Matt Blum recovered from an early spin to finish in the second spot. Scott Hendrickson ran a strong third.
One of the most hotly contested races of the night was the Pure Stock Division. Mike Baker had his A-1 Automotive special on the pole. Baker showed the way for the first fourteen laps. Once again, terrible luck ended his night as the motor gave up on the fourteenth lap. Jason Holbrook inherited the lead and never looked back on his was to another win. James Henick ended up second and Tommy Conquest third. It appeared during the entire event any one of six drivers looked as if they could win.
The Mini Stocks were back in action after a couple weeks off. Jay McKenzie and Ronnie Hicks led the way on the start. McKenzie grabbed the advantage early and led until half way. One lap later, Hicks took the lead and charged his way to his first win of the season. McKenzie had to settle for second on this night.
Probably the best race of the night was the Thunder Stock feature. IN the twenty lap tilt, Ken Sheffield’s Gainesville Roofing #25 was in charge for the first thirteen laps. During this time there was furious battling going in behind the leader. Drivers were able to move up spots only to get shuffled to the back. The racing was absolutely amazing as it always is in this class. On lap fourteen, Larry Welter Jr. moved under Sheffield, bringing Willard Driggers with him. Welter finished in the top spot, ahead of Driggers and hard charging Bobby Taylor who finished third. Aaron Welter held off his dad for his first ever win in the Harvey Wallbanger Feature. It was a spectacular end to an amazing night of racing at the premier facility in the state. Congratulations to all the competitors and the fans for supporting Bronson Motor Speedway.
