Mother Nature Washes out Citrus TBARA Weekend
|
by Larry MacMillan
(Inverness, Fl. 6/5/05) It has been a wet week in Citrus County and it looked like an all day situation for Saturday according to the weather person. Before the TBARA Sprint Car drivers made the long haul from all over the state, General Manager Don Cretty and Promoter Billy Hooker conferred early in the day and called the races due to the weather outlook. The plan is to look at the Sprint Car open dates and try to reschedule. This is always an exciting show for the fans featuring the fastest race cars ever to put rubber down on Citrus County Speedway. That decision will be made later in the week while management tries to fit an available date into Citrus’ busy race schedule. Don Cretty said “we will definitely try to make this race up in the near future.” The TBARA Sprints are scheduled to run again on November 5th.
The Figure 8’s were hurt several times last year due to rainouts and there is a possibility that this rainout will be rescheduled if there is an available date that won’t conflict with other specials Citrus is running or where other Figure 8 races are being run so the field won’t be cut down. Promoters have tried to schedule non conflicting races throughout the season so there won’t be any short fields for the traveling series no matter where they are running. That decision will also be made before next weekend.
The balance of the scheduled race card to include the Mini Stocks, Hobby Stocks, Thunder Stocks and 4 Cylinder Bombers will just be a lost race weekend since there are no open weeks to make up those races. It’s the rainy season and rainouts are one of the hazards that promoters and racers have to live with. It would be wonderful if we had control over the weather particularly for the weekends.
Next Saturday night will feature the local Modifieds, Sportsmen, Mini Stocks, Hobby Stocks, Thunder Stocks and 4 Cylinder Bombers continuing their 2005 points races. The Open Wheel Lites are also on the schedule for their second appearance of the year. They always put on a great show in their 5/8ths scale 30’s and 40’s coupes and sedans powered by motorcycle engines, racing three a four wide at all points on the track and they love Citrus County Speedway’s 3/8ths mile. Keep your fingers crossed that the Mother Nature doesn’t get upset with us and put us out of business for the second week in a row.
