On a warm Saturday afternoon the “Turner Tree and Landscape” Limited Late Models rolled out for their qualifying for the 100-lap feature later in the evening. The times were close throughout the field but it was Jessie “Fast Time” Dutilly rolling out in front of the huge crowd to take the honors.
The “0” came up on the roll of the die, which meant the field would start straight up from qualifying. When the green dropped there was a mad scramble as the 30 of Dutilly experienced mechanical woes. Flames popped out of the exhaust as the car failed to fire just under the flag stand sending cars sliding across the front stretch. When the smoke cleared Dutilly took his ride to the pits and his night was over before it started.
With Dutilly out Steve Dorer jumped out to the lead and at one time had almost half a lap on the rest of the field. Dorer looked a shoe in to take the win when his car suddenly slowed. As the field checked up behind him Dorer retired the 10 car down into the infield for the night.
Tim Russell, who had won the Good Year Challenge Series Friday night at Orlando Speedworld assumed the top spot and never looked back as he took his second win of the Memorial day weekend. The race for second was hot and heavy with Steve Arnold edging out Glenn Morris. “ The car was a handful tonight I’m happy with second” Arnold said after the race. Fourth across the stripe was Chuck Burkhalter and in fifth was Shawn Icely.
Clear Channel School Bus Fig.8 Scott Brown and Mike Gamache ran side by side in the early laps of the Bus Figure 8 race. Several near misses at the X had the crowd on its feet through out the 25-lap event.
When the dust settled it was Brown dominating the final laps roaring to the checkers, Ernest Helfrick got around Gamache late to take second, third was Gamache, fourth went to Greg Smith with the fifth spot going to Mark Jackson.
Sleep Inn Suites Bombers “The Mayor” John Stewart has had a rough month of May at the “High Banks” but all the stars were aligned as he dominated the final laps of the Bomber feature. Sean Cavanaugh edged closer to his first feature win coming home in the second spot. Dave Davis fought his way into the third spot, fourth went to Jesse Adair and rounding out the top five was “Jammin” Jay King.
NAPA Auto Parts Cowboy Caddies Mike Amo climbed into the ride of Duane Campbell to make his return to the Cowboy Caddie ranks and showed he hadn’t lost his touch in the full sized pick-up trucks. With the bumpers dragging from early race contacts Amo held off a hard charging Joe Gagen to return to the winners circle, Gagen settled for the second spot, third went to Allen Bragg, fourth was Roger Swinton and fifth Shannon Query.
International Contractors Street Stocks Coming off back to back second place finishes last week in the “twin 25” Street Stock features Dennis Wilson climbed into the 35 machine of Greg Krom and roared to the 20 lap feature, second across the stripe was Brian “DeJa Vue” Teeters, third was Duane Best, fourth went to Casey Hall and fifth William Slack.
Q Auto and Injury Atty's OWM Dennis Wilson won his second feature of the evening in the Open Wheels barley holding off the late race charge of “Racin” Mason Love. Love took the second spot, third went Ralph Bowman, fourth across was Bobby Baldwin and in fifth Chris Robbins.
