Full Night of Excitement at Bronson Motor Speedway
|
Again this week at the ASA sanctioned Bronson Motor Speedway had a special event on the calendar. It would pale in comparison to the huge success of the first ever Crash-o-Rama though.
The third annual Outhouse Race presented by Jones Plumbing and Septic was contested on Saturday night. Tommy Chambers picked up the first feature win of his young career. He completed two laps and a sprint to the "outhouse" in a blistering one minute and seven seconds.
The Race Cars of Yesterday were in town to make up their rained-out event from two weeks ago. Over twenty of the racing classics showed up to take on the challenge of the high banks. There was some outstanding action throughout the event. At times, cars were three and four wide all the way around the speedway. Many of the older fans really enjoyed watching the racers of their youth compete again. In the end, it was the #7 of Tim Brush would hang on for his second series win at Bronson Speedway.
The Modifieds were the first of the Bronson Racing Series to compete in their feature event. Chip Owen was the early leader of the race. Unfortunately, his time up front would be short lived. On lap four, Kevin Durden moved his Larry Martin owned racer into the lead. Chip would then have his hands full with his father, Gene Owen. Once Gene passed Chip, he set sail for the leader. Durden had the field covered though as he cruised to another win in the Modified Division.
The always improving group of Hungry Howie's Sportsman were up next. Ten of the best Sportsman cars in the state competed in the feature event. It appeared as the favorite to win; Robbie Cooper would have his hands full on this evening. James Stalnaker jumped out to the early lead and for a moment looked as if he would be a strong contender. After leading the first five laps, Stalnaker was overtaken by Cooper. Stalnaker ran a strong second until mechanical woes eliminated him from the event. Roger Damron took over the second spot but was unable to unseat Cooper as the leader. Once again, Cooper was victorious in Hungry Howie's Sportsman action.
The Pure Stock race got off to a rough start to say the least. An incident involving Donnie Roberts, John Mamph, Tommy Conquest, and A.J. Northup were involved in a crash on the second lap. Once the dust settled, Roberts and Mamph were eliminated from competition. The rest were able to continue in the race. Northup would also fall out later due to a flat tire. Jason Holbrook was able to lead wire to wire to pick up another win on the 2005 racing season. Bobby Johnson, Conquest, and Mike Baker followed closely across the line.
In Thunder Stock action, it was the Randy O'Neal show once again. He was able to leap out to the lead early and never looked back. Teammate Willard Driggers was the only close competition. For a moment it appeared as if Driggers could challenge O'Neal, but he was too strong. Berlon Weeks finished a close third in the event.
A first time winner was guaranteed in the Harvey Wall Banger Feature. No one in the race had won before at Bronson Motor Speedway this season. When the checked flag fell, John Scheider in his Mac Daddy Caddie was victorious. Next week, in honor of Armed Forces Day, all military personnel, active or retired will be admitted free with proper ID. The entire Bronson Racing Series will be in action. Come on out to the speedway and show your support to our Armed Forces!
