Crash-A-Rama Fills Bronson's Grandstands
|
The fans flocked to the ASA Sanctioned Bronson Motor Speedway for the first ever Crash-o-Rama held last Saturday night. Standing room only would be the order of the day as the stands filled early in preparation for the night's festivities. It was a Mother's Day celebration as the first 100 mothers through the gate received a flower courtesy of the Cameron Asbell Insurance Agency. Almost a carnival like atmosphere was in the air as many outside vendors were on hand selling food and beverages.
Everyone on hand certainly got their money's worth as the show lived up to its hype. The night got off to a spectacular start with the wall of steel. Stunt driver Chuck Rush, successfully piloted his "Junkyard Dog" through two cars standing up on their ends. The flagpole race in which drivers made a full lap around the speedway then around a center obstacle followed.
Also there was a reverse race, this required drivers to circle the speedway entirely in reverse. One of the most popular events of the evening was the boat trailer race. Cars took to the high banks pulling boats of all shapes and sizes, and the winner had to have his boat still on the trailer.
Robbie Powell was victorious in the Figure 8 Pro Car race. The driver of the Retro Elevator #25 raced from the rear of the field to claim his second consecutive win. The School Bus Figure Eight was the first event following a brief intermission. An event that is always a fan favorite pleased the capacity crowd for all twenty laps. When the hands all played out Ronnie Schrieffels took home a very hard fought win.
A co-pilot never has been as important as they were in the next event. The blindfold race was a great delight to the crowd. The driver, with his vision completely obscured had to totally depend on the verbal instructions of the passenger as they circled the speedway. The destruction of not one but two demolition derbies would wind down the night's festivities. As the fans began to exit the facility, the "Green Mamba" jet car melted down three of the disabled cars left behind. From the sound of the cheers throughout the night, it was a wildly successful evening of entertainment for one and all.
Next week, the entire Bronson Racing series, including Modifieds, Hungry Howie's Sportsman, Pure Stocks, Thunder Cars, Mini Stocks and Harvey Wallbangers will be in action. In addition, the Race Cars of Yesterday will join in on the fun. Gates will open at 5:30 and racing will start at 7:30 as always.
