Full Moon Fun at Bronson Speedway

It was a much anticipated return for the Modified class at the ASA Sanctioned Bronson Motor Speedway Saturday Night and the crowd was not disappointed. Bronson’s premiere division was the first class to run their feature race on a spectacular night of racing.
Gene Owen started on the pole in his Texas Trailers special and once the green flag fell, Owen used this advantage to take the early lead with Gary Southard and Ron Campbell in tow. The top three raced away from the rest of the pack. Determined to settle the race among themselves, the top pack ran single file for the first ten laps. On lap eleven, Southard piloting his Brother Alan’s car, moved to the bottom to challenge for the lead. After a spirited battle, Owen’s motor expired and eliminated him from contention. The hired gun, Southard would cruise to a win over Campbell and Chip Owen.
Next on deck were the Hungry Howie's Sportsman series. Matt Blum and Robbie Cooper were on the front row after strong runs in the heat races. After the start, Blum jumped out to the early advantage. He and Cooper dueled for the lead throughout the early going. Roger Damron would join the mix in his Hugh’s Concrete entry and even lead briefly. On lap six, Cooper established himself as the dominate car and ran away to another win in the Hungry Howie's Sportsman series.
The Pure Stocks took to the speedway after the completion of the Sportsman race. John Mamph led lap one of the race. Although a hard charging Donnie Roberts would muscle by Mamph and take the lead. There would be a lot of bumping and grinding in the pack behind the leader, Roberts. Frontrunner, Mike Baker made a bid for the point for a moment but was shook out of the lead pack and had to settle for fifth. After a restart on lap six, Roberts sped away for the win with Jason Holbrook a close second.
Up next was the fast and furious action of the wild and crazy Figure Eight series. Gary Swing took advantage of his starting position at the front as he would lead the first eight laps. One of the hardest chargers was the #25 of Robbie Powell. He started his Retro Elevator machine in thirteenth and quickly was among the leaders. Powell established himself as the leader on lap nine and never looked back. There were many close calls throughout the event, but there were relatively few incidents as the race closed out. Hats off to Charley Meyer, as he ran a strong second in the race.
As always, the Thunder Stocks put on an extremely eventful race with tight racing throughout. There was a five-way battle for the lead in the early going. Willard Driggers showed the way followed closely by Bobby Taylor and Randy O’Neal. For a time, it looked as if anyone of the front pack could win the race. As the laps began to wind down though, Driggers and Taylor separated from the field to settle it among themselves. Driggers held off Taylor for his second win of the young season.
In Mini Stock action, Clint Foley raced to another win in dominate fashion as he led the entire way to pick up another victory. Ronnie Hicks and Billy Smith rounded out the top three. As the last event the Harvey Wall Bangers aimed to please. After a quick start, Michael Peters raced to his first win in only his third start at the High Banks of Bronson Motor Speedway.
Next week, the Florida Legends Touring Series, Super Mini Cup Cars and The Race Cars of Yesterday join the entire Bronson Racing Series for another great night of racing excitement. The following week, On May 7th, the first ever CRASH O RAMA storms into Bronson Motor Speedway for an awesome night of entertainment. This is the same series that was featured on Spike TV earlier this year. The loaded night of excitement will include School Bus Figure Eight, Pro Figure Eight Cars, Boat Trailer Race, Blindfold Race, Reverse Race, the “Green Mamba Jet Car” and two separate demolition derbies and more! Mark your calendars for MAY 7th for Bronson’s Crash-A-Rama!
