Scott Adema tops USA Sprints at Hialeah Speedway
|
by Marty Little
HIALEAH, Fla. - Previous visits to Hialeah Speedway proved invaluable to sprint car racer Scott Adema Saturday night as he overhauled Dennis Misuraca on lap 15 and sped to victory in the 25 lap USA Sprint Car series feature.
Misuraca started from the outside of the front row and hustled to a comfortable lead but Adema, who started sixth, was the fastest car on the track. After closing the gap, Adema got by Misuraca in traffic and was never headed. Tim George, who won the USA event here in March, checkered second ahead of Dave Oblinger, Mike Schroeder and Michael Smith.
David Weaver paced the limited late model 20 lap run in wire to wire fashion for his first score of the year. Veteran Danny Maddox pressured Weaver in the closing laps but finished in the runner-up slot over Bob Regula, David Myer and Dale Horne.
Street stock points leader Buddy Ryan continued to aide his own cause with a strong run for his second score in as many weeks in the 25 lapper. Greg Gorniak paced the early laps until Myer worked past on the inside to set the pace for five laps. At that point T.C. McElyea was the new leader but he and Myer tangled on lap 21 to hand the lead to Ryan who hustled to his third victory this season over Todd Cooper, Gorniak, McElyea and Joe Frannsen.
S.C. Klinger was able to survive late race engine problems to notch his first victory of the season in the 15 lap mini stock headliner. Klinger, who's Toyota has been struggling with mechanical issues this season, started from the pole and built a huge lead only to have the engine go flat with two laps remaining but he nursed it across the strip first. Point leader Greg Kaouk claimed second money over Ricky Thorpe, Ken Chaiser and Jamie Chambers.
Part time competitor Zane Reid took advantage of a front row starting position and paced all 25 laps to nab his first cyclone division feature this season. Timmy Ryan worked through traffic and pressured Reid for the last few laps but settled for second spot. Point leader Ken Housh claimed third money over George Morales and Sean Ryan.
