Bob Regula takes LLM Win at Hialeah, King tops FASTRUCKS
|
by Marty Little
HIALEAH, Fla. - Veteran Bob Regula nosed under leader Richie Henry on lap 15 and sped to his first limited late model victory of the season Saturday night at Hialeah Speedway.
Henry blasted from his pole position and quickly built a lead only to have the handle go away on his Chevrolet. Regula soon caught up and made the inside pass and pulled away to snare the 25 lap run. Craig Seewald claimed second money ahead of Henry, Pat Flack and Ray Derry.
The visiting Fastrucks went 75 laps with second-generation pilot Tommy King the victor over the 24 truck field. Tim Shaffner paced the opening 33 laps from his outside front row starting spot as the cargo haulers worked the flat third-mile oval in very close formation.
King took command at that point but it was not cake walk to the checkers. Second running George Morales made a banzi move under King on lap 71 and spun off turn four to end his night. Sean Bass collected second money ahead of local drivers Tom North and Mike Powers with Geroge Gorham completing the top five.
The 25 lap companion main for the Fast Kids saw Spencer Taylor lead wire to wire for his first victory of the new season. David Wilson, the kids' points leader checkered second in front of rookie Brian Blum, Joe Coulter and Levi Hobbs.
Eddie Lawler hustled his battered Chevy to the victory in the 25 lap cyclone headliner. David Dielmann was the early leader and looked good until a yellow flag grouped the field on lap nine. Lawler finally boxed Dielmann in lapped traffic and took the lead on lap 18 and never looked back. Dielmann collected second place money over point leader Ken Housh, Joey Minnetti and Phil Peterson.
The combined street stock/mini stock 15 lap feature fell to T.C. McElyea with an easy run over David Myer, Buddy Ryan, Joe Franssen and Bill Calder.
