Dutilly Takes First Limited Late Model Race Unofficaly
|
By Rick Anges
Bradenton, Fl. On a cool crisp night the Turner Tree and Landscape Limited Late Models made their debut on the “High Banks” of DeSoto Super Speedway.
The die roll inverted the first 5 rows putting Glenn Morris and Jordan Richardson on the front row. The green dropped and Morris jumped out to the early lead with Richardson right on his back bumper.
The action heated up early as Lonnie “the Flash” Miller and Steve Arnold tangled coming out of turn four as the duo was running in the top five. Miller went around in a cloud of smoke and Arnold was sent to the rear of the field for the infraction.
Jeff Wogoman was feeling the early season jitters. As he was making his way towards the front he made contact with Richardson who was able to gather his ride back up but lost several spots on the track. A few laps later Wogoman got into the leader Morris out of turn two, Morris went around and Wogoman was sent to the rear.
The story on this night was “the Young Gun” Jessie Dutilly, in only his second year in the high powered late model. He avoided all the altercations on the racetrack and powered out to the front to take the lead. Steve Arnold came from the back to second spot but was never able to catch the high flying Dutilly who roared to the his first checkered flag. Arnold took second. Wogoman settled down and held on for third fourth was early leader Glenn Morris and in the fifth spot was Lonny Miller.
Questions about Dutilly’s carburetor in post race tech held up the official finish of the race at the time of this report.
Q Auto & Injury Open Wheel Modifieds Mike Hinegardner was the class of the field in the Open Wheels as he was up to almost a half lap lead in the 35 lapper. A late race caution bunched the field allowing Robby McAuliffe to close in on the leader but Hinegardner was not to be denied as he roared to his first modified win at DeSoto. Second across the stripe was McAuliffe, third was Bobby Baldwin, fourth James Glover and fifth Dale Shelton.
Pure Stocks “Ravishing” Rick Hurley and Duane Best put on one of the best races of the evening as the two went after each other lap after for the top spot on the track. They swapped the lead several times but when the smoke cleared it was Hurley who came out on top, Best settled for second, Dave Clearly finished third but a post race inspection found illegal engine parts dqing him and giving the third spot to John Brown, Daven Query was fourth and on the eve of his 15th birthday Tyler Lau was fifth.
NAPA Auto Parts Cowboy Caddies Rich Wildrick took home the trophy in the Cowboy Caddies, second was Joe Gagen, third went to Duane Campbell, fourth was Scott Ollar and fifth Matt Wildrick.
Mini-Stocks For the first time in many years at DeSoto a VW graced the winners circle as Bruce Moorehouse held off the Ford of “Gentleman” Jon Bailey to take the win. Bailey was second, third was Mike Gayle, in fourth Mike Kerrivan and rounding out the top five was Dean Butrum.
Bombers The Bomber feature was dedicated to Doug Raastad who won the first feature of the young season but suddenly passed away the following week. The field started the race with the missing man formation and ended with an empty track checkered flag in honor of Raastad.
Dave Davis won the feature, second was John Stewart, third was Cody Gilder, and fourth was Jay King and fifth Cliff Mitchell.
