Deschamps wins FMSC at SpeedWorld
|
by Jane Smith Bithlo, Fla. (October 1, 2004) After a lengthy absence of racing due to rain and hurricanes, Orlando SpeedWorld returned to action Friday night with the Florida Mini Stock Challenge 50 lapper and all FASCAR divisions running. Bob Beiler had the pole for the Super Stock feature and quickly took the point over Ted Head, Sean Bass, Bill Loomis and Roger Benton. Ray Mullins brought out the yellow when he lost a tire on lap 3. Beiler holds the point on the restart as Benton and Corey Freed go side-by-side for fifth place. The caution comes out on lap 9 for Sean Bass and Ted Head who get together. Both restart the race in the rear as Beiler continues to hold the point. John Castro, who started at the rear of the field, is coming up strong and works his way to fourth place. Beiler takes the checkered followed by Bill Loomis, Corey Freed, John Castro and Jason Foster. Sean Bass and Bob Beiler won the heat races. Twenty one Super Lates were in the field for the 25 lap feature with Patrick Conrad on the pole. But before a lap was down, the race went red due to David Rogers hitting the turn 2 wall hard. Rogers seemed to slip and with not enough room to correct, slide into Ronnie Roach which caused a pile-up in turns 1 and 2. Rogers was taken out of his car and sent to the hospital. Also out of the race was Ronnie Roach, Rich Clouser, Chad Pierce, and Wayne Morris. On the restart, Conrad held the point followed by Jeff Choquette, Bobby Fleckinger, Jared Allison, and Michael Williams. Williams passed Allison and took over fourth as Allison went to fifth. Starting in 16th was Ricky Wood who now made his presence known taking fifth from Allison with Allison going to sixth. Conrad holds the point and takes the win followed by Jeff Choquette, Michael Williams, Bobby Fleckinger and Ricky Wood. Ronnie Roach and Jeff Choquette took the heat wins. Chris Thornton set fast time for the 50 lap Florida Mini Stock Challenge race with a 15.591 but on the pole was Rex "Boneman" Hollinger. Taking the point on the green was Josh Hermann but it was a short lead as Hermann spun in turn 2 going to the rear of the field. Thornton now has the point on the restart followed by Kevin Macy (who had a rough trip to Orlando as his tow vehicle was wrecked on the way and someone had to go and pick-up his hauler so he could race), Darren Jackson, Ronnie Larson and Robbie Storer. Storer challenges Larson and is able to make the move and takes over fourth as Larson goes to fifth. Mark Moniz brings out the yellow as he spins on the frontstretch. Thornton holds the point for the restart followed by Storer, Jackson, Larson and Dustin Deschamps. Larson passes Jackson for third with Deschamps following for fourth as Jackson settles into fifth but is being challenged by Clint Foley. Foley passes Jackson taking over fifth with Jackson in sixth. Deschamps takes over third with Foley taking over fourth as the caution comes out on lap 29 for Charlie Brown who has spun in turn 1. Thornton holds the point for the restart followed by Storer, Deschamps, Foley, and Jackson. Suddenly Storer's engine lets go bringing out the caution. The track is cleared and the race goes back green. Thornton holds the point on the restart but Deschamps is really looking and finally makes the move, makes it stick and takes over the point followed by Thornton, Foley, Jackson and Larson. Deschamps takes the checkered. Ricky Wood had the pole for the Open Wheel Modified feature but it was Jim "Hoot" Flynn who took the lead after spinning on the first start and causing a complete re-start. Following Flynn was Wood, Mark Emberson, Skip Honaker, and Justin Reynolds. Reynolds spins in turn 2 bringing out the yellow. Flynn holds the point for the restart followed by Wood, Emberson, Honaker and Corey Freed. Skip Honaker brings out the yellow as he spins while fighting Freed for fourth. Flynn holds the point for the restart and takes the checkered followed by Ricky Wood, Mark Emberson, Corey Freed and Skip Honaker. Jim Flynn took the heat win. Bobby Joe Woodley had the pole for the Sportsman feature but it was a short lead as Danny Shearer and Justin Hall get together in turns 1 and 2. Both cars were damaged and out of the race. Woodley holds the pole for the restart but it is Dale Clouser who takes over the lead and takes the checkered followed by Bobby Joe Woodley, Charlie Vest, Richard Hight, and Spencer Lemmerman. Charlie Vest took the heat win. Richie Laszlo took yet another Strictly Stock win but it was Brandon Thompson in the No. 54 Strictly Stock truck that put on a show with Bobby Crites. Those two did some great side-by-side action as Laszlo ran away from the field. Richie Laszlo took the heat win.
