IT'S TIME TO RACE!!
July 24, 2004
Jason Foster gets First Feature Win in Super Stocks at SpeedWorld
by Jane Smith

Bithlo, Fla. (July 23, 2004) It was the night before the big Crash-A-Rama at Orlando SpeedWorld. Seventeen Super Lates came to try their luck at the best little short track in Central Florida. Fans saw plenty of stockcar racing at it's finest.

Ricky Wood had the pole for the 25 lap Super Late Model feature and quickly took the point on the wave of the green followed by Patrick Conrad, Rich Clouser, Jared Allison and Bobby Fleckinger. Lap 6 would see Patrick Conrad get loose and spin high in turns 1 and 2 and Eric Deffendall getting the worst end as he had no where to go. Both cars retired from the race.

Wood once again held the point on the restart with Clouser, Allison, Fleckinger and Ron Dicandio in the top five. But it was a very short green as on lap 7, Scott McKinley brought out the yellow when he spun coming off turn 4.

Wood holds the point but the yellow comes out again for Mario Hernandez who has spun. But on the restart, it is yellow again for Rodney Eary and Greg Brooke who get together in turns 1 and 2 on the restart. Both drivers are fine and with Brooke going in and Eary continuing on.

The race goes back green as Wood leads the way followed by Clouser, Allison, Ronnie Roach and Fleckinger. But it is a one lap green as Eary spins coming off turn 4. As the green waves for the restart, Wood finds that Clouser has more power than he thought as Clouser is right on his tail. But Wood holds. Roach is giving Allison a run for his money for third but Allison holds. The yellow comes out on lap 17 for Eary who has spun almost exactly in the same spot as before coming off turn 4.

Wood holds the point on the restart but it is another short green as Bo Jackson spins and hits the wall coming off turn 4. Jackson is fine but his car will need alittle work for next week. Wood holds the point and takes the checkered followed by Rich Clouser (his first ride in a Super Late), Jared Allison, Ronnie Roach and Bobby Fleckinger. Jared Allison and Patrick Conrad took the heat wins. After all was said and done, Allison maintains a 12 point lead for the Championship over Wood, this is going to be one good race for the Championship.

Bruce Gayton had the pole for the Sportsman feature race with it was Bobby Joe Woodley who took the point on the green followed by Gayton, Richard Hight, Charlie Vest (welcome back Charlie) and Eddie Thornton. Gayton retakes the lead over Woodley and then Hight passes Woodley for second as Woodley settles into third. On lap 12, Woodley and Hight are racing hard and get together in turn 4 with Hight spinning. Hight has a cut tire and must go into the pits as Woodley rejoins the field in the rear.

After a faulty start, Gayton once again takes the point followed by Vest, Woodley, Thornton and Dusty Cornelius. Just as they are coming to the checkered, Woodley spins as Thornton takes advantage and gets third with Woodley settling for fourth. Top five were Bruce Gayton, Charlie Vest, Eddie Thornton, Bobby Joe Woodley and Dusty Cornelius.

Richard Hight won the heat race.

The Mini Stocks saw a caution free 15 lap feature with Josh Hermann on the pole and winning from the pole. On the green, Hermann was followed by R.J. Arnone, Burt Morse, Dick Laszlo and Sean Bass. Morse passing Arnone and takes over second as Arnone slides to third. Coming from the rear of the field was last week's winner Chad Ashely who passes Bass for fifth and then Arnone for third. Hermann takes the checkered followed by Burt Morse, Chad Ashley, R.J. Arnone and Sean Bass.

Bass blew his motor in practice and borrowed Dick Owens car for the feature. Lee Davis also came to race and blew his motor in practice. Josh Hermann took the heat win.

Super Stocks also saw a caution free feature with Jason Foster on the pole and winning from the pole. This was Foster's first feature win. Following Foster on the green was Ron Whaley, Bill Loomis, Bob Beiler and Dave Wright. Corey Freed takes over fifth from Wright as Wright slides to sixth. Bill Loomis spins but does not bring out the caution as Foster has the run for his life holding off Whaley. Ted Head makes his appearance in the top five. Foster does a great job and takes the checkered followed by Ron Whaley, Bob Beiler, Corey Freed and Ted Head. Jason Foster and Ron Whaley take the heat wins.

Ronnie Roach had the pole for the Open Wheel Modified feature but after the green was waved, the red flag came out as Roach and Jim "Hoot" Flynn got together in turns 1 and 2 hitting the wall hard. Both drivers were fine but we can't say that about their cars. No ones fault, just one of those racing deals.

George Murphy took the point on the restart followed by Alan Bruns, Mark Emberson, Ricky Wood and Joe Guzzo. Murphy and Bruns brings out the caution on lap 7 as they battle for the lead and get just alittle too close with Murphy spinning. The rule is both cars must go to the rear for the restart which is exactly what they did turning the lead over to Mark Emberson.

Emberson gladly takes the point on the restart as Murphy comes up quick and takes second. But Murphy slows allowing Ricky Wood and Alan Bruns to take over second and third as he settled into fourth. Emberson held the point and took the checkered over Ricky Wood, Alan Bruns, George Murphy, and Joe Guzzo. Murphy was finalized one spot for jumping the restart putting him fifth and Guzzo fourth.

Mark Emberson took the heat win.

Strictly Stocks saw Richie Laszlo take the win over Ray Steinberg.
