|
by Dave Westerman
Clermont's Patrick Conrad took the measure of the RE/MAX Legends car field twice Saturday night at Orlando Speedworld as he won his 11th and 12th features of the season.
Conrad opened the evening winning the make-up feature that was rained out on June 26th. Jeremy Colangelo finished second for the seventh time this season with Bobby Byars having another good showing for third. A.J. Fulgenzi returned to Legends action with a nice fourth place finish while Wesley McLeod took fifth. Brandon Thomson, Mike Verhaagh, Jarred Cawley, Mike Fazio and Doc Richardson completed the top ten. Rounding out the fifteen car field were Spike Sabo, Wild Willie Wilson, Mitch Verhaagh, Kyle Dombeck and Gus Richardson.
Conrad also breezed to victory in the nightcap with young Brandon Thomson scoring his best finish of his Legends Car career with a second place finish in the 21 car field. Sam Watts returned to Legends action with a third place effort followed Bobby Byars, with his second top five of the night, and Kory Abbott who returned in style following his bad crash of a month ago to get fifth. Six through tenth were Wesley McLeod, Jarred Cawley, Spike Sabo, Mike Verhaagh and Mike Fazio. Rounding out the finishers were Derrick Wood, Doug Hall, Kyle Dombeck, Paddy Rodenbeck, Wild Willie Wilson and Gus Richardson. Doc Richardson, A.J. Fulgenzi, Kevin Howard, Mitch Verhaagh and Jeremy Colangelo failed to finish the 25 lap distance.
George Landis topped the Modified Lite field for the second time this year outgunning brother Mark Landis, Mike Belusar, Phil Krauthoff, Nick Shadid and Spanky McFarland.
Brad Sanders took the Pro Challenge victory over his brother Rod Sanders while Ken Watts, Tim Hart and Bobby Robillard rounded out the top five.
Gerald White, Jr. notched his tenth Bandolero Bandits feature win of the year taking the checker ahead of Ryan Rust, Blake Eden, Donovan Ponder and Roger Benton, Jr.
Not only did Brandon Thomson get his best career RE/MAX Legends Car finish, but he also won his third consecutive Bandolero Young Guns feature over a star-studded field. Chelsea Schillig did all she could to unseat Thomson from the lead but had to settle for second. The Jarrett brothers, Scott and Matt were third and fourth with Derrick Wood fifth ahead of Jason Treschi (who came all the way from Virginia to race), Jessica Murphy and North Carolina driver Leia Lewis.
Make it four wins in a row and seven on the season for Evan Russell in the Bandolero Outlaws. Trailing Russell at the stripe were Kara Clarke (who is getting more confident and faster each week), Grampa Dave Jarrett, and Sam Gearhart.
Pop Honaker scored his third Hurricane win of the year over William Hindman, Eric Smithers, Brian Bleau, Kenny Walker, and Gomer Pyle. The FAST Kart Club also made their Saturday night debut with over 50 karts in seven classes. action was very good and many of the regular race fans were impressed with them. Unfortunately, no names were provided, but hopefully we can provide a rundown of their finishes when they race at Speedworld in August.
