Mother Nature Visits Bradenton Lawn & Fun Mini Stock Twin-15's At East Bay
|
by Bill Green
Tampa, FL ( June 26th, 2004) The Bradenton Lawn & Fun sponsored Twin-15's for the 4-cyl Mini Stocks started off with the roar of their engines, but ended with the roar of Mother Nature.
Bradenton Lawn & Fun Mini Stock Twin-#1saw points leader Scotty Williams lead the field to the green, with second in points Chad Rose next to him and the two Mini Stock 2004 Championship contenders battled each other the entire race.
Williams lead at the drop of the green flag, but Rose took the lead out of turn two on lap 3, only to fall to third as Williams and Josh Peacock both got by 3 laps later. Rose brought the 7-junior back to the front quickly after caution, but the car started to smoke. During one caution late in the race, Williams pulled along side Rose.
"He was motioning that there was smoke showing and I needed to pull in, but I saw good oil pressure and I wasn't buying it!" Rose stated in Victory Lane.
Rose's win chipped away ever so slightly at the lead in points Williams had, but Williams finished in second, so it was a very small chip. Third went to the hard charging Ryan Mitchell, with Dainel Bowman, Jr. fourth and Rich Livernois fifth.
Gagle's Auto Parts Open Wheeled Modifieds came to the green with 20 cars in their feature. As Mother Nature put on a light show in the distance, Bill Howard would use his pole position to lead wire-to-wire for the trip to Victory Lane. Jeff Mathews held on to second, with Greg Reutimann coming home third, while Bruce Watkins and David Boerner survived several close encounters in other peoples problems, to come home forth and fifth respectively.
As the Street Stocks rolled onto the track, Mother Nature rolled in. After 30 minutes of heavy rains, officials worked out a plan for the make-up features and called it a night.
East Bay Raceway Park will make-up the 4 missed features by running Double Features for the Mini Stocks, Street Stocks, Late Models and Limited Late Models on July 10th. Remember East Bay is closed next weekend for the 4 of July. They will also move the Twin-15's scheduled on the 10th of July for the Open Wheel Modifieds, to the 17th. This allows Bradenton Lawn & Fun an opportunity to enjoy the second half of their special night, before the Gagle's Auto Parts sponsored Open Wheels run that set of Twin-15s on the new, July 17th date.
If that's all clear as mud to you, call the track office at 813-677-RACE and they'll set you straight.
Hope to see you in Daytona, if not, We'll see you at the races!
