Joseph Jones Wins His lst Ever Street Stock Feature at East Bay Raceway Park
|
by Bill Green "From Behind The MIC!" Tampa, FL (Jun 5th, 2004) For over a year and a half I have been enjoying street stock racing, hoping and willing them to a green to checkered flag run with no yellows. Tonight, would surely be the night after all these weeks of yellow flag filled features.
As the Street Stocks came to the green with Mac Kersey on pole and Tim Spencer to his right, it would be Kersey winning the race to turn-1, bring Joseph Jones with him. Lap two would see Kersey hard into turn 1 working to hold off the Jones and he would spin in turn-2, but keep the car moving falling to the rear. That's all Jones needed to hold off Tim Spencer in the end for his first ever win in our Street Stock class. Third would go to Wayne Hays whom started 12. Fourth went to "The Col." Austin Sanders, with the always steady finishing Hollie Smith coming home fifth. Limited Sprints brought 14 cars into tonight's feature and it would be young gun Larry "Buzz" Brazil, Jr. digging for the action packed win. Second went to "Fly'n" Brian Maddox, with "Big" Tim George third, Tim Holston fourth and Travis Bliemeister fifth. Open Wheel Modifieds went 15 laps to see a return to Victory Lane by Jeff Mathews. Second went to John Bradley, while David Schmauss held on for third, Rusty Dixon fourth and Jerry White fifth Limited Late Models saw Terry Bronson visit Victory Lane in the normally piloted David Simpson 23D car. Second would go to Forest Gough who kept the pressure on Bronson. Third had Jeff Mathews back in the top-5 for two races in a row, Dorsey Strickland salvaged a forth and William Hampton finished fifth. Late Models saw Vince Muzzin out front most of the night, but Jackie Nosbisch, Jr. reeled him in and took the top spot, leaving Muzzin to spin in turn-2 for an also ran finish. Jack, Jr. would detonate his motor soon after that leaving the veteran drivers Donnie Tanner and Keith Nosbisch to battle it out for the win. Keith Nosbisch play "Catfish" and kept the newly skinned 02 car on the bottom all night, while "The Master" Donnie Tanner, used the cushion up top to help stage the side-by-side action. Lap after lap the two dueled with Nosbisch better through turns-1 and 2, while Tanner was superior through turns 3 and 4. Finally, the "Catfish" swam past "The Master" for the long over due win. Tanner held on for second, Bill Howard came home third, David Schmauss came home fourth and "The Mayor of Muddville" Roger Crouse took fifth. Mini Stocks would see one of the wildest finishes in some weeks, as Marty Daily lead out of turn-3 on the final lap, but never crossed the finish line. Over driving turn-4 slightly, Daily would begin to spin in front of the field, Chad Rose would make contact as he charged hard on the inside toward the checkered flag. Daily would come up 22 feet short of the start finish line, while Chad Rose would back over the finish line in second. The win would go to third car out of turn-4, Scotty Williams for the win. Second would be Rose by 6 inches of rear spoiler, third went to the #15 of Cecil Martin, fourth to Daniel Bowman, Jr. and Rich Livernois returned to the top-5. Next week the Winged 360 Sprints return to East Bay Raceway Park for the Ring-Power Twin-20's and a virtual double-points night. So you'll see all of the stars of the East Bay Sprints back in action as well as the Late Models, Street Stocks, Limited Late Models and Mini Stocks. Also don't forget Friday Night "Under-The-Lights" Action for the Go-Karters on June 11th, starting at 6PM. We'll See You At The RACES!
