It's Conrad Again in Legends, Towles Tops Mod Lites at SpeedWorld
|
by Dave Westerman
The challenges were there Saturday night, but Patrick Conrad prevailed yet again for his ninth win in ten RE/MAX Legends car outings at Orlando Speedworld.
Conrad, Jeremy Colangelo and Kevin Abbott swapped the lead back and forth during green flag racing before Conrad took the checker. Colangelo wound up in second spot for the fifth time this year while Kory Abbott battled back from an early race incident that sent him to the rear of the field as he passed his brother Kevin to claim third. Wesley McLeod was fifth.
Darin "T-Bone" Coker lived up to his nickname as he did just that to James Rodriguez in a pretty nasty looking crash and, although both cars were done for the night, both drivers were OK.
Jacksonville's Ron Towles was back in the Modified line-up for the second time this year, and for a second time he was in victory lane. George Landis was second and has now finished in the runner-up spot in every Mod Lite race contested here this year. Robert Crandall finished third just ahead of Bill Burback and Nick Shadid.
Todd Currier of Cape Coral won his second Pro Challenge race of the year at Speedworld topping Ken Watts, Rod Sanders and Howard Brennan. Chelsea Schillig won her fourth Bandelero Young Guns feature of the year leading Scott Jarrett, Matthew Jarrett and Nik Wesenick to the stripe.
The feature for the Bandelero Bandits was a good one with Chad Akins holding off Gerald White, Jr. to score his second win of the year. Blake Eden, Ryan Rust and Donovan Ponder rounded out the top five. The Bandelero Outlaw main event went to Evan Russell for his third of the season. Dave Jarrett was second followed by Kara Clarke and Sam Gearhart.
Bobby Crites made it two in a row in Hurricane competition as he out ran Greg Bruce, Zach Colangelo, Brian Bleau and Ken Walker to the checkered flag.
