Tony Barreca Take Street Stock 50 Lap Win at Hialeah
by Marty Little
HIALEAH, Fla. - Tony Barreca took the lead on lap 17 from John Garguilo and hustled to the victory in the special 50 lap street stock feature event Saturday night at Hialeah Speedway.
Garguilo, an infrequent competitor, had things in control but a safety violation saw him black flagged and Barreca took command and never looked back in annexing his sixth main of the season. Travis McCoy claimed runner-up money over T.C. McElyea, Chad Rutherford and Kyle Wharff.
Tommy Styer had no challengers in a wire to wire score in the 15 lap mini stock headliner. Plagued by mechanical problems this season, Styer no problems this night as he ran away from the short field for only his second victory of the season. Bill Calder was a distant second in his Mustang over Greg Millard and Harold Cross.
Another large field of cyclone drivers answered the call for the 25 lap feature event with rookie driver Robert Seymour out front for the first dozen laps. At that point George Morales powered to the front and motored to his second victory of the season. John Pettit and David Dielmann, who both used the difficult outside lane to advance, clamied second and third money respectively with Josh Gorniak and Roger Pfau rounding out the top five.
Pfau came back to win the 15 lap figure 8 run ahead of David Weaver and Eddie Lawler while Dick Denoncour was the best of the dozen bashers and crashers in winning the demolition derby.
Three weeks remain in the 2003 season including the 33rd running of the Marion Edwards Memorial 100 for super late models on Dec. 6.
