HIALEAH, Fla. - Joe Winchell debuted a brand new car in grand style Saturday night at Hialeah Speedway as he swept both ends of the MK Mechanical Series limited late model twin 50s.
In the opener Winchell wasted little time in getting to the point as he zipped around leader Nick Staropoli on lap nine and was never headed and pulled away to an easy victory. Greg Kaouk had a good run for second money over Danny Maddox, David Weaver and Staropoli.
Kendrick Gomez started from the pole in the second 50 and paced the field through lap 30 when a misque allowed Winchell to gain the top spot. Gomez gave chase but settled for runner-up honors ahead of Maddox, Kaouk and Gary McGoron.
Stuart Robertson was the best of the MK Mechanical Pro truck field as he grabbed the lead on lap 34 and raced to his first-ever victory in the series. Chasing Robertson's Chevrolet to the stripe in the 50 lap run was Curt Haywood, Charlie Worth, Tim Shaffner and Tom North.
Street stock action saw Steve Dielmann run to a wire to wire victory, his first of the season, with a determined drive in the 25 lappper. T.C. McElyea was second over Bob Hogan, point leader Sean Bulaskas and Gary Bisallion. Due to a short field the mini stocks ran with the street stocks with S.C. Klinger the top finisher.
Ron Lunsford was the early leader but it was Ken Rickert who sped to his first cyclone feature victory of the season in the 25 lap finale. Mike Powers ran Rickert down in the closing laps but settled for second spot ahead of George Morales, Timmy Ryan and Eddie Lawler. Weekly racing continues at the Miami-area oval through December 13.
