ARNOLD, WELCH SPLIT IN LIMITED LATES AT CCS
By Claude Lewis

PUNTA GORDA, Fla. (Oct. 18) Steve Arnold and Frank Welch split twin Limited late Model features Saturday night at Charlotte County Speedway.

Welch of North Fort Myers won the 30-lap make-up from Oct. 11, while Arnold of Cape Coral took the checkered in the regular 30-lap feature.

Arnold was second to Welch in the first race, while Welch was second to Arnold in the regular race.

The second and first-place finishes inched Arnold closer to clinching the Limited Late points title at CCS. Welch is second in points.

Third place in the makeup was Cape Coral teen Cory Collum, while veteran randy Fox out of Lehigh Acres was third in the regular feature.

There were three other divisions running at CCS Saturday.

In Open Wheel Modifieds, L.B. Skaggs of Lehigh Acres zoomed for the win in the 25-lap feature. Steve Duerr of Cape Coral was second and Dan Atwell finished third.

In Super Stock, Danny Caylor of Lehigh Acres passed Ander Jackson on lap 16 and won handily in the No. 7 Camaro. It was Caylors 11th victory of the season. Jackson, the Punta Gorda teen, hung on for second ahead of hard-charging George Tanner of North Fort Myers.

Thunder Trucks also had a double feature, one a make-up and the other a regular.

The song remained the same, as John Garrett simply smoked the field in the blue No. 22 for victories No. 13 and 14 on the year. He was close to lapping the entire field in the second 25-lapper.

Cheryl Weaver was second and Mike Bialecki third in the make-up. Both hail from Port Charlotte.

In the regular race, Wally Smith of Cape Coral was second and Richard DuPont of Buckingham third. It was the first top three finish in three years of racing for DuPont.

This coming weekend, Oct. 25, will see two big races at Charlotte County Speedway. There will be a 100-lap feature by the Florida Pro Late Model Series. Plus, the second leg of the Gulfcoast Triple Classic Series will unfold. That race will be a 75-lapper for Open Wheel Modifieds. In addition, Sportsman will race a regular feature.
