Bradenton, Fl. - Just as the 28 Super Lates and 26 DeSoto Trucks were getting ready to roll out for qualifying Mother Nature opened the skies and the rain came washing out the session.
With close to 140 cars in the pits and a good crowd of die hard race fans on hand the wetness was waited out and a full night of racing ensued.
The field in race # 1 was lined up by current point's standings. The roll of the die inverted the field 5 rows putting Darryl Shelnut on the point.
The green dropped and Shelnut jumped out the lead early in the race and although several drivers got close he was never seriously challenged for the lead in the 1st 75-lap event. Behind him though the racing was getting dicey. Points leader Joe Boyd who has looked strong early in the season ran into trouble once again as he found the turn one wall early after getting tangled up with several cars ending his night early.
Wayne Anderson came up from the 26th starting position and late in the race and finally had caught the leader and looked like he was going to make a challenge for the lead. He drove his car deep into turn three but didn’t get on the binders quite enough as he tapped the leader sending him around and bringing out the yellow. Anderson was sent to the rear of the field but was able to come back for a sixth place finish. When the smoke cleared it was Shelnut taking the win, "Big Daddy" Dave Pletcher came from mid pack to take second, third went to Mike Bresnahan, fourth was Johnny Jackson and rounding out the top five with an excellent run was Robert "Showtime" Yoho.
The field in race #2 was inverted from the finish of the previous race putting Scot Walters and Chris Fontaine on the front row. Fontaine lead most of the laps but as the laps wound down Walters started making his bid for the lead. Walters looked as though he was trying to find the perfect line around Fontaine.
Fontaine could feel the heat and as he drove into two he went around in a cloud of smoke bringing out the yellow and then being sent to the rear, Fontaine finished 16th. Walters assumed the lead but the win didn’t come easy as Wayne Anderson was on his back bumper but Walters was able to make his car as wide as possible taking the win in race #2, Anderson settled for second, third went to Steve Dorer, Johnny Jackson had another good run taking another fourth and fifth went to Dave Pletcher.
DeSoto Trucks Jim Alterizio has been running the Truck Series for several years at the high banks and although he has had good runs in the series a win as always eluded him. But tonight as the 26 trucks lined up by draw would be his night. Once Alterizio moved out to the lead the race was his to he win or lose.
The 3 truck of Alterizio was unstoppable and he cruised to the win in the 50 lap feature event, Racin' Mason Love returned to the winners circle taking second, Third went to a hard chargin Todd Bontrager, fourth was Paul Grynewicz and fifth went to Jimmy Gill.
