IT'S TIME TO RACE!!

Ademia Takes Winged Sprints, Flynn Inherits Super Stock 50 Lapper Win
by Jane Smith

Samsula, Fla (September 20, 2003) A late afternoon rain shower did not stop any action at New Smyrna Speedway. The track was dried and the program was run in full. Sixteen TBARA Winged Sprints gave the fans a thrill but it was the thirty six count Super Stock 50 lapper that was non-stop racing action.

Dude Teate, Gary Gimmler, and Ray Bragg took the heat wins for the TBARA Winged Sprints. Scott Ademia had the pole for their feature event and took the lead on the green.. Following Ademia was Gary Gimmler, Wayne Reutimann, Sr.. Wayne Reutimann, Jr., and Ray Bragg. Bragg takes fourth putting Reutimann, Jr. in fifth.

Reutimann, Jr. has problems and withdraws from the race with Dude Teate taking over the fifth place spot. In the meantime, Reutimann, Sr. takes over second and puts his eyes on Ademia in first. Teate moved into third with Gimmler sliding back to fourth and Bragg fifth.

Keith Butler, the points leader for the TBARA Winged Sprints, moves into fifth pusing Bragg out of the top five. Butler is able to pass Gimmler taking fourth with Gimmler settling into fifth.

Only one caution was thrown for a spin at the bottom of turn 4. The race was restarted with Ademia on the point and taking the checkered followed by Wayne Reutimann, Sr., Dude Teate, Keith Butler, and Doug Hevron.

Thirty six Super Stocks took the green for the 50 lap feature. Randy Jones sat on the pole and took the point on the green followed by Dustin Skinner , Brent Brown, Lee Wagner, and Butch Pierce. On lap 1, the caution came out for Steven Metts who spun on the frontstretch and lands in the grass. Lee Wagner spins avoiding Metts.

The field is realigned with Jones taking the point on the restart but not for long as Skinner powers past Jones and takes the lead. Robert Skinner then puts the power on and passes Jones for second with Butch Pierce tagging along for third as Jones settles into fourth. On lap 5, Jim "Hoot" Flynn brought out the yellow as he spun coming off turn 4 with smoke trailing behind him. Flynn quickly pits and comes back out. Dustin Skinner holds the point on the restart followed by Robert Skinner, Jones, Pierce and Brent Brown.

Suddenly it is Mike Soukup taking the fifth place spot and running really good but on lap 10, the caution is thrown for a car on the backstretch and Soukup has to pit losing his fifth place spot. Dustin Skinner once again holds the point on the restart with Robert Skinner, Randy Jones, Butch Pierce and Brent Brown in the top five. Josh Wronkowski brings out the caution on lap 10 again when he spun on the backstretch with Brown and Pierce both spinning after the caution was thrown. The field is realigned once again, and back to green.

Jeff Colburn moves into fifth on the restart and quickly passes Pierce and Jones and takes over third. Lap 15, Brian Soukup and Jack Lenzen spin in turns 1 and 2. Soukup retires to the pits and Lenzen is sent to the rear of the field for the restart. The race restarts with Skinner in the lead followed by Skinner, Colburn, Jones and Pierce. But on lap 17, the yellow comes out again for Jason Dryer who is stuck in the mud at the bottom of turns 1 and 2. Dryer is towed out and retires to the pits.

Skinner once again takes the point on the green but on lap 24, the caution is thrown for Nick Vogler who has problems and can't make it back to pit road. Vogler gets the help needed and the race goes back green. Skinner holds the point on the restart but it is another short green as Pat Buckley brings out the caution on lap 26 when his engine goes up in smoke.

On the restart, Dustin Skinner is on the point but Robert Skinner now has his hands full with Jeff Colburn who is going side-by-side for the second place spot. Charlie Collins has now taken over fifth putting Brown out of the top five. Colburn is able to take second with Randy Jones in third, Robert Skinner in fourth and Colllins fifth.

Bob Bailey brings out the caution on lap 29. Bailey pits for a tire and quickly returns to the racing surface. Skinner holds the point on the restart followed by Jeff Colburn, Robert Skinner, Randy Jones, and Charlie Collins.

On lap 37, Ted Head brought out the yellow and retires to the pits. Skinner holds the point on the restart followed by Colburn, Skinner, Jones and Collins. On lap 40. Collins's engine blows bringing out the caution once again. The track is checked and the last ten laps go green.

With 20 cars and 10 laps left, it is door-to-door action. Dustin Skinner takes the checkered followed by Jeff Colburn, Robert Skinner, Randy Jones, and Brent Brown. BUT, in tech, all top five cars were disqualified giving the win to Jim "Hoot" Flynn. Flynn had this to say after the decision, "remember when Kevin Durden won not long ago without leading a lap, while I just won without leading a lap and passed more cars in tech than on the track." The new top five were Jim "Hoot" Flynn, Jack Lenzen, Butch Pierce, Kevin Auger and Todd Driscoll.

Rex Christensen had the pole for the Mini Stock feature but it was Ted "Mr Mini Stock" Vulipus who quickly and I do mean quickly took the point on the green followed by Rex "Boneman" Hollinger, Rex Christensen, Tim "Missileman" McPhail, and David Castello.

On lap 6, Vulpius's engine lets go and he slows makes his way onto pit road as Tim "Missileman" McPhail takes the point followed by Hollinger, Christensen, Castello and Puglisi. On lap 13, Christensen passes Hollinger for second but by lap 14, Hollinger has come back and retaken second. McPhail takes the checkered followed by Rex "Boneman" Hollinger, Rex Christensen, David Castello, and Pug Puglisi Tim "Missileman" McPhail took the heat win.

The visiting Mini Cups saw Doug Smith on the pole for their feature event but it was Wendy Kash who quickly took the point on the green followed by Smith, Terry Tullis, George Aurienma, and David Tayler. Dan Suggs takes over fifth then fourth as Bobby Payton moves into fifth with Aurienma landing in sixth.

On lap 10, the caution was thrown for the No. 12 of Pinto. On the restart, Kash finds herself going door-to-door with Doug Smith for the lead. Kash does a great job but Smith is strong and takes over the point. Kash slides backwards but is able to come back and takes over fourth. Smith takes the checkered followed by Terry Tullis, George Aurienma, Wendy Kash, and Rick Aurienma.

Doug Smith and Wendy Kash took the heat wins.

Larry Osteen had the pole for the Super Late Model feature and quickly jumped to the lead followed by Fain Skinner, B.J. McLeod, Mike Finn, and Guy Thomas. Finn brings out the caution on lap 1 as he hits the turn 1 wall with Thomas on the backstretch in the inside wall. Both cars are done for the night.

Osteen holds the point on the restart followed by Skinner, MeLeod, Eric Black and David Rogers. Rogers passes Black and takes over fourth with Black settling into fifth. Osteen finds his hands full of Skinner who is obviously faster but is being blocked. Skinner taps Osteen going into turns 1 and 2 with Osteen going around and hitting the turns 1 and 2 wall. Skinner has to pit with front-end damage and does not return to the race.

On the restart, it is B.J. McLeod on the point followed by David Rogers, Eric Black, Joe Fitos and Robert Jenkins. McLeod goes high coming off 3 going into 4 on lap 9 which allows Rogers to move under him and take the lead. McLeod was able to get right on the rear bumper of Rogers but just could not pass him back. Rogers holds the point and takes the checkered followed by B.J. McLeod, Eric Black, Joe Fitos, and Robert Jenkins.

David Rogers and Guy Thomas took the heat wins. Remember - next Saturday night 125 laps of Super Late Model action as the Sunbelt Super Late Models race at New Smyrna.

Billy Spade had the pole for the Sportsman feature but it was Mike Trocki who took the point on the green followed by Spade, Lufcy, Nusbaum, and Clouser. Spade passes Trocki and takes over the point with Clouser moving up and landing finally in the second spot putting his beamer on Spade. On lap 14, Clouser makes the move and it works taking over the point and taking the checkered for the win. Following Clouser to the checkered was Billy Spade, Mike Trocki, Ron Lufcy, and John Nusbaum.

Billy Spade took the heat win.

Curtis Smith had the pole for the Strictly Stock feature and quickly jumped out to the lead but on lap 1, the yellow was thrown for a car stuck at the bottom of turn 1. Smith holds the point on the restart followed by Jason Cherrett, Richard Renzi, Jeremy Hovencamp, and Gordon Houck.

Cherrett passes Smith and takes over the point putting Smith second, Hovencamp third, Renzi fourth and Houck fifth. Hovencamp does some wild driving (likes to dirt track) but is able to pass Smith and takes over second but is unable to pass Cherrett for the lead.

Cherrett holds the point and takes the checkered followed by Jeremy Hovencamp, Curtis Smith, Gordon Houck, and Teresa Trombley.

Jason Cherrett and Travis Scott took the heat wins.

Next Saturday night, don't forget, 125 laps of Sunbelt Super Late Model action!!!!
