Teenager Walter Reardon wins Late Model Feature at Columbia
by Marty Little

LAKE CITY, Fla. - Teenager Walter Reardon, an invader from Georgia, hustled into the lead on the initial start and paced all 25 laps to snare the late model feature event Saturday night at Columbia Motorsports Park.

Reardon was able to out drag polesitter Perry Lovelady for the lead and never looked back. Veteran Kevin Dicks was able to run Reardon down in the closing laps but had to settle for runner-up honors over Lovelady, Gig Smith and Ray Wheeler.

Jason Garver had things all his way in the 20 lap Florida modified run as he blasted into the lead at the outset then easily outran former champion J.F. McClellan, Charlie Seroki, Pat Jett and Travis Burris.

With victory in sight, the engine in Jeff Prescott's street stock mount expiered and Johnny Mitchell sped past for the honors. Dennis Nixon also got around Prescott for second money with Prescott, Roy Crain and Shannon Lang rounding out the top five finishers.

Russell Patterson got a "gimmie" with the pure stock victory as the flagged winner failed post-race tech. Second in the 20 lap run fell to John Roling over early leader Trish Taylor, Kent Lovett and Heath Walker.

Bob Quick proved the best of the visiting Modified Lights over early leader Rick Lundeen and Brian Gingras while Buck Headman topped the small hornet car run.
