After a brief shower just before warm up time, Mother nature left us alone for the rest of the night and six classes of racing plus the spectator races at intermission completed every lap of racing this Saturday night.
Eleven heat races for the 112 racers signed in tonight set the stage for feature action to start right on time.
First up were the Limited Late Models for their 15 lapper and Bill Howard would use an outside front row starting spot to bring home the win. Don't think Bill had an easy go of it though as several restarts kept the field bunched up. With a weekend off from the NASCAR Busch circuit, David Reutimann would come out to play in the dirt and come from the number twenty starting slot to take second in the closing laps. Timmy Gay, William Hampton, and Timmy Bronson rounded out the top five. The heats went to Roger Crouse and Bill Howard.
Next up were the Mini Stocks for their 15 laps. Josh Peacock started on the pole and managed to hold off all comers to take the win. Chad Rose took several shots at the lead but had to settle for second. Brian Debore, Jim Courson, and Wallace Peacock all followed closely. Heat winners were Josh Peacock and Greg Pae.
The Limited Sprints saw just nine cars take the green for their feature and once again it was Tim Holston in victory lane. Following Tim to the checkers were John Retzlaff, Tim George, Larry Brazil Jr., and Donnie Maxwell. Holston also won the heat.
Twenty five Open Wheel Mods were on hand and Bill Howard would nab his second feature of the night from the 11th starting spot. Jerry White. Buddy Wisham, Buzzie (Yes, Buzzie) Reutimann, and Bruce Watkins chased Howard across the line in that order. Jeff Conyers and Jamie Burrows took the heats.
Twenty five laps of fast and furious Late Model feature action brought David Schmauss to victory lane. In the post race interview David would explain that they have been working the bugs out of a new chassis but it was hooked up just fine tonight. Devin Dixon, Donnie Tanner, K.D. Kelly, and Ted Erskine finished second thru fifth. Tanner and Kelly saw the heat race checkers first.
The last feature of the night was for the Street Stocks and the fans that left early missed a doosey. After a red flag for an upside down Mark Alderman with the car of Tim Spencer on top of it, Tim Hunt would use the entire racetrack and a textbook slide job a few laps from the finish to take a photo finish over Eric Johnson, Danny Paris, Bruce Harvey, and Richard Peacock. The $20.00 per position challenge for a flag to flag green 15 lap feature remains unclaimed but the Street Stocks have put on some of the best races in the last few weeks. Rob Hall and Paris won the heats.
The 1-800-ASK-GARY dash for cash went to the Limited Sprinter of Travis Bliemeister tonight. Travis beat Donnie Maxwell, John Retzlaff, James Surrency, and Tim Holston to claim the $$$.
Bill Green should be back with us next Saturday night fully recoverd from throat surgery and I would like to thank Jay Parrish for his help in the booth tonight.
Next week it's six classes of fun and dirty racing once again on THE CLAY BY THE BAY at EASTBAY RACEWAY PARK. BE THERE!!!!
