IT'S TIME TO RACE!!
July 14, 2003
Conquest takes Bronson 50 Lap Pure Stock Event!!, Schreifels gets first Figure 8 Win!!!
By Rick Warren

It was a great night of racing, as the Bronson Racers returned from a 3 week layoff, anxious to race again. The stands were full, the weather was pleasant, and the racing was very good. The fans were welcomed back with two special events, as the figure 8 racers returned, and the Pure Stock Division ran a 50 lap feature event, Presented by BRONSON LUBE. The pit area was full, and 26 pure stocks attempted to set the fast qualifying time and claim the $100 reward for fast time. When all had given it their best shot, Bobby Johnson had shown the way with the quickest lap.

25 Pure Stocks lined up for the feature event, with the first 6 cars having their starting positions inverted. The Green flag waved, and the race was on , but only for a minute. A multi car crash took place in the fourth turn, and racing was halted while the mess was cleared up. Several cars were forced to pit for repairs, and Wesley Keller, one of the pre-race favorites, was done for the night, as well as A.J. Northrup. The race was restarted, and the action was fast and furious.the cars of Tommy Ausburn, Jason Holbrook, Cliff Erhardt, Dwight Pinner, Bobby Taylor, Arthur Conquest and Bobby Johnson were all in the battle for the lead through out the race. The race was slowed by several cautions for minor incidents, but the cautions also served to keep the field tightly bunched. As attrition started to be a factor, the cars of Ausburn and Holbrrok both fell victim to mechanical problems, and fell out of the race. Conquest finally made his way to the front near the midway point, but never was able to open a comfortable lead. Although Conquest appeared to be in control, the race for second was far from settled. The cars of Taylor, Johnson and Erhardt were all over each other, trying to gain an advantage. As the race ended, Conquest held on for the win, followed by Erhardt, Taylor and Johnson.

A good field of figure 8 racers were on hand for the feature as well, as 19 cars took the green flag for the feature race. The racers put on there usual wild and crazy show, and showed some real skill and timing with many near hits at the cross road. The race was slowed briefly for three cautions, but the green flag runs were some awesome racing.

Ronny Schreifels came out on top for his first feature win at Bronson, followed by Rodney Davis and Robert Aaron.

The Modifieds were also in action, and Gene Owen notched another win as he led wire to wire to claim the victory, followed by Alan Southard and Buddy Hughes.

The Sportsman class had a new winner this week, as Steve King came out on top of a tough race. King and Kyle Maynard ran side by side for 8 laps after the start, each trying to take the lead. Maynard stayed close, while Rob Cooper, trying to overcome handling problems and an overheating racecar, steadily closed the gap. King held on for the win, while Cooper managed to get by Maynard and claim the runner up position.

Billy ”Stir Fry” Padgett won the V8 Bomber division, as the racers in thia class were using this race as a tune-up for next weeks’ 50 lap race for the Bombers. HE was followed by Kevin Hodge and William Baker.

Be sure to join us next week for the BRONSON LUBE 50 lap feature event for V8 Bombers, plus come see the drivers try to throw their weight around in the drivers vs. Track officials Tug O’ War !! Hope to see you there !!!
