Beauchemin Wins MK Mechanical 100 at Hialeah
by Marty Little

HIALEAH, Fla. - Able to survive two spins and numerous contact, Bobby Beauchemin held on in the closing laps to claim Saturday night's MK Mechanical 100 for limited late models at Hialeah Speedway.

Although he started the century run from the pole position, it was no cake walk for Beauchemin as his ill handling mount required a great deal of coaxing in the closing laps to stay ahead of the very persistent Nick Staropoli and Greg Kaouk.

Things began to go wrong on the second lap when Beauchemin and Joe Winchell tangled and both headed to the pits with flat tires but both were able to restart. On that restart Winchell and Mikeal Kohut tangled in turn three, ending the night for both drivers.
Scott Criasfulli led to lap 10 when Staropoli took command and set the pace to lap 65 as heavy attrition quickly thinned the 17 car starting field. On lap 65 Staropoli looped his mount in turn four but kept his leg it as Beauchemin took command.

Things went smoothly until lap 95 when Greg Kaouk and Beauchemin made contact in turn one with the latter's mount spinning into the wall. Beauchemin got his spot back and Kaouk went to the back of the lead lap cars and they ran to the checkers without incident. Behind Beauchemin and Staropoli were Kaouk, Steve Weaver, Jr., and Gary McGoron.

Todd Anglani led wire to wire to claim his first street stock headliner of the season with a good driver over Sean Bulaskas, Fred Schenk, Ron Wilson and Tony Barreca in the 25 lap run.

The visiting Pro Trucks saw Curt Haywood and his potent Ford F-150 lead all 50 circuits for the score in front of Mike Famigletti, Tim Shaffer, Heather Lunsford and Jake Reedy.

Thirty cars started the cyclone main with Rick Lenhardt leading from the third lap to claim his first victory of the season. Point leader Mike Powers notched second over Roger Bohannon, early leader Ron Lunsford and Ken Rickert.

Complete finish of MK Mechanical 100 limited late model race showing finishing position, driver and laps completed.

1. Bobby Beauchemin 100, 2. Nick Staropoli 100, 3. Greg Kaouk 100, 4. Steve Weaver, Jr. 100, 5. Gary McGoron 98, 6. Gary Padula 90, 7. Kendrick Gomez 85, 8. Tim Shaffner 43, 9. Rick Rogero 40, 10.
