HIALEAH, Fla. - Gary Padula muscled his way into the lead on lap 10 then held off Gary McGoron to win Saturday night's 25 lap late model sportsman feature at Hialeah Speedway.
Pat Flack paced the opening nine laps from his pole position with several challengers jockeying for position close behind. Padula executed several good bob and weave moves before driving under Flack to gain the lead. McGoron pressured the leader but settled for second ahead of Danny Maddox, Greg Kaouk and Joe Winchell.
Tim Shaffner notched an easy victory in the 20 lap street stock finale for his first win here this season. Wheeling the truck he uses for the traveling series around the state, Shaffner took the top spot on lap 10 when Steve Dielmann suffered a flat tire. Runner-up honors went to Tony Barreca over T.C. McElyea, Sean Bulaskas and Dielmann.
Mini stock action saw former champion S.C. Klinger power his Toyota around Bill Calder's Mustang on lap three and never look back enroute to his third score of the season. Calder never stopped the pursuit for second money ahead of Tommy Styer, Jim Miner and Dave Shull.
Roger Bohannon came from deep in the cylcone field to claim his third victory of the season. John Pettit, the third different leader, appeared to have things well in hand until Bohannon used a rare low side pass for the lead on lap 16 and was gone. Pettit checkered second over Ken Voight, David Dielmann and Jose Valdez.
Two specialty races found Billy Field the winner of the tire race over Valdez and Linda Schmal while Bob Regula was the best in the figure 8 run ahead of Victor Leo and Field.
