The Earth Moves at Orlando SpeedWorld with Winged Sprints
by Jane Smith

Bithlo, Fla (April 11, 2003) - "I feel the earth move under my feet" was the song humming in everyone's head as the TBARA Winged Sprints roared around Orlando SpeedWorld. The walls were certainly shaking for the fans.

Wayne Reutimann, Jr. held the pole for the 25 lap feature. Reutimann, Jr., who won last weekend at Ocala Speedway in the USCS main event, quickly jumped to the lead on the green with Sonny Hartley, Wayne Reutimann, Sr., Dude Teate, and Keith Butler in the top five. On lap 3, Teate took over the second place position putting Hartley in third.

Hartley, who made slight contact with one of the lap cars, spun in turns 1 and 2 with a brand new car #7 also making contact with Hartley and the wall and spinning uncontrolably from the top of the track to the bottom. The race was then red flagged The driver of the #7 eventually was able to get out of his car but had no idea of how he got down to the bottom of the track. Obviously, he was knocked out from hitting the wall and going into hyper speed in endless spins. The ambulance took him into the pits and the tow trucks went to work towing in the wrecked sprints.

The race was restarted with no further cautions with Reutimann Jr. winning by almost a half lap over Dude Teate, Wayne Reutimann Sr., Keith Butler, and Gary Grimmler.

Heat wins went to Wayne Reutimann, Jr., Dude Teate, and Wayne Reutimann Sr.

Derrick Wood took the feature win in the Bandits Bandolero division. Matt Bowers had the pole and lead for the first 10 laps until he broke turning the lead over to Wood. On the last lap, Wood and Gerald White, Jr. do alittle side-by-side action with White spinning but continuing and Wood taking the win. Following Wood to the checkered was Blake Eden, Gerald White, Jr., Josh Williams, and Matt Bowers.

Matt Bowers took the heat win.

Sam Watts lead from green to checkers in the Young Gun Bandolero event. On lap 8, Troy Atkins spins and on lap 9, Brandon Thomson and Jessica Murphy are doing some side-by-side action but Murphy holds strong and keeps her fourth place spot. Following Watts to the checkers was Kevin Henry, Troy Atkins, Jessica Murphy, and Brandon Thomson.

Sam Watts took the heat win.

Doug Samion had the pole for the Sportsman feature event. On the green, Samion and Richard Hight go side-by-side for the lead spot. Coming off turn 1 and going into turn 2 they get sideways and take out Donnie Smith who is coming around on the bottom of the track. Since Smith was well off the track and into the pit field, no caution came out.

Samion went on to take the win with Richard Hight, Michael Albert, Bill Hall and Justin Hall in the top five.

Richard Hight took the heat win.

Jason Boyd returned to Orlando SpeedWorld before his big event at U'SA International in the Goodyear Challenge Late Models to lead from flag to flag. But before a lap was down on the books, Dink Sullivan and Shane Held spun in turns 3 and 4 with the field realigning for a total restart.

On lap 1, Rusty Perdue brings out the yellow as he hit the turn 1 wall hard. Perdue was fine but not very happy as he was towed into the pits. On lap 2, Glen Bradley, last week's winner, spins with Jared Allison spinning to avoid Bradley. Both cars are sent to the rear of the field for the restart.

Boyd continued to hold the point after each restart which there were many. On lap 3, Dink Sullivan slides into the turn 2 wall bringing out the yellow but is able to continue racing. On the restart, it is Boyd, Jerry Artuso, Chad Pierce, Shane Held, and Lynn Dicandio.

Lap 10, Allison, who has come from the rear, takes over fifth putting Dicandio to sixth. Artuso is giving Boyd a good run for the money getting right up on his back bumper but was never able to take the lead. Boyd wins with Jerry Artuso, Chad Pierce, Shane Held and Jared Allison in the top five.

Jared Allison and Jason Boyd took the heat wins.

Ted Head lead from pole to checkered in the Super Stock feature event. But before the race was really going, Justin Reynolds and Bryon Anderson got together coming off turn 2 on the backstretch wall with Reynolds hitting the wall hard. Reynolds got out shaken and holding his side. Both cars were towed into the pits, done before they even started.

On the restart, it was Head, Bob Wines, Larry McCormick, Cory Freed and Ron Whaley. Lap 3, Whaley's axle broke bringing out the only other caution of the 15 lap event. Whaley was fine but was towed to the pits and done for the night.

Head maintained the point and took the checkers followed by Cory Freed, Bob Wines, Mike Soukup, and Glenn Castro.

Ted Head and Bob Wines took the heat wins.

Pedie Allison had the pole for the Mini Stock feature event and took the point on the green. But it was Lee Davis who fought Allison side-by-side for the point and was able to take it. Tim "Missileman" McPhail quickly jumped in with Davis putting Allison third as McPhail took over second.

Lap 5, Duwayne Parker spins but is able to continue. Davis maintains the point with McPhail, Allison, Wayne Clark and Rex Hollinger hot in pursuit. Lap 11, Dick Laszlo spins in turns 1 and 2 but does not make contact with the wall in his new mini Ford truck as Tom Rose slips up.

Davis holds the point on the restart and takes his first win of the 2003 race season at Orlando SpeedWorld. Following Davis to the checkered was Tim "Missileman" McPhail, Pedie Allison, Wayne Clark, and Rex "Boneman"
Hollinger.

Tim "Missileman" McPhail took the heat win.

Roger Benton took the Strictly Stock feature event winning from flag to flag.
Benton quickly jumped to the point on the green and lead every lap taking the checkered. Following Benton to the checkered was Robert Ward, Bobby Woodley, Debbie Aulee, and Richie Laszlo.

Robert Ward took the heat win.

Next week at Orlando SpeedWorld, April 18, Legends plus double points for all FASCAR divisions.
