Bradenton,Fl.- B.J.McLeod led the field of 23 Super Late Models in qualifying in race number 2 of the All-American Challenge Series. McLeod ran a fast lap of 14:31 second around the ?High-Banks? to secure the top spot.
The roll of the die inverted the first two rows putting third fast qualifier Dave Pletcher on the point with former ?Hooters Pro-Cup? stand out Mario Gosselin on the outside of the front row.
When the green dropped Pletcher jumped out to the lead, McLeod moved into second and Gosselin was third. The three ran nose to tail early until coming out of three McLeod went around in a cloud of smoke.
He rejoined the field at the tail and started making his way back towards the front. A tangle on the back stretch by several cars caused James Glover to slow trying to avoid the wreck, McLeod had nowhere and ended up with Glovers car on his hood, Glover was able to continue but McLeod had to retire.
With McLeod out second fast qualifier Johnny ?Action? Jackson moved into the third spot. Pletcher, Gosselin and Jackson battled hard going three wide in the turns getting the crowd up on their feet. Late in the race Gosselin got a fender under Pletcher, the two got together and Pletcher spun in between turns 3 & 4.
While sitting idle on the track Mike Abbott wasn?t able to get slowed and slammed into Pletcher causing heavy damage to both machines.
Gosselin and Jackson continued to battle after the green came back out but Jackson was caught up in a late race altercation ending his bid. Gosselin was able to hold onto the win($3,000), Jeff Scofield($2,000) took second, third went to new comer Jim Smith($1,200), fourth was Richard Till and rounding out the top five Darryl Shelnut.
