by Rick Anges Bradenton,Fl. Wayne the ”Rocket Man” Jefferson took the green flag and never looked back as he dominated the Super Modified 50 lap feature at the “High Banks” last Saturday night. Several cautions bunched the field but no one was a match for the black #1 machine as he took the checkers a half a lap ahead of second place.
Several cars experienced problems during the race including Dan Partelo who had a good race car and a good race going until he smacked the wall causing major front end damage to his car ending his night and shaking his head as they had to double tow his car off the speedway.
Jefferson took the checkers, second was Limited Late Model competitor Doug Moff. Third place was a battle to the end with a last lap pass by Timmy Moore to take the spot over Jeff Conyers, fifth spot went to Steve Perez.
Mini-Stock
Another feature that was a run away was the mini-stock feature as Todd Freed started on the pole and drove away from the pack easily taking the win. Freed said “ we changed a lot of things on the car this week and it really worked good all race long”. Second place went to Buddy Traylor, third was “Hollywood” John Wilson who announced that he would be donating 25% of all of his winning to the “Kids by the Sea” charity to the applause of the crowd on hand. Fourth went to Joe Gagen and rounding out the top five last week’s winner Mike Gayle.
Legends
Ray Sasser and Jordan Richardson put on quite a show battling for the top spot in the early stages of the Legends feature but Sasser showed his experience and got by the 00 on his way to the victory. Jason Reisman came from mid-pack to take the second spot, Richardson held on for third, fourth went to Patrick Conrad and fifth was Jeff Johnson.
Street Stocks
The Street Stock feature was one of the best races of the evening as 7 cars traded the top position lap after lap but when the smoke cleared it was a happy Tommy Huffstutler taking the trophy, Jamie Cassidy who lead quite a few laps came across the stripe in second, third went to Dennis Wilson Jr., fourth was Jonathan Hiedenthal and coming home fifth Casey Hall.
Sportsman
Lonny Miller was the victor in the sportsman class holding off the charge of James Casady, Jessie Dutilly battled over heating problems and took the third spot, fourth was James Brenner and fifth went to Keith Neff.
Pure Stocks
The Pure Stock feature was a rough and tumble event. After mulitple tries to get the first lap completed and multiple yellow flags the field was sent to the infield as the next feature was run to give them time too cool off.
After it was all said and done Orlando native Ted Head took the checkers. Head said, "I didn't decide to come down and race until 5 o’clock today, I guess it was a good decision”. Second place went to a hard charging Rob Taylor, third was Keith Thorbin, fouth was Conrad Molter and fifth was Thomas “the Squirrel” Morgan.
