Ferry Wins Phish Heads 50

Middleton donates 2nd place winnings
by Marty Little
LAKE CITY, Fla. - Richard Ferry nudged his way past youngster Jay Middleton and went on to win Saturday night's Phish Heads 50 lap late model stock feature event at Columbia Motorsports Park. Ray Wheeler was the early leader followed by Doyle Boatwright and Middleton but on lap 13 there was chain reaction contact and Ferry slipped under Middleton and never looked back enroute to the victory. Middleton checkered second over Gale Grayer, Donnie Oden and Boatwright. Middleton donated his entire purse to fellow high school classmate Chad Grainer who was injured in a non-racing accident and remains in a coma in a local hospital.

Once again the street stock headliner was the most competitive event of the night and when the checkers flew it was veteran Tim Conrad across the stripe at the head of the pack. Trailing in the 20 lap run was early leader Nick Reid, Brad Fiene, Dave Barber and Charles Seroki.

Matt Stafford bested the short pure stock field as he topped Marty Wood and Harry Stickle in the 20 lap main and J.F. McClelland topped rookie Max Mock in the special Florida modified exhibition run.
