Tim Conrad Gets Street Stock Win At Columbia | by Marty Little
Eddie Gainey wasted no time putting his name in the record book for 2002 as he grabbed the lead on lap five and sped to the win in the 25 lap late model stock feature event Saturday night at Columbia Motorsports Park.
Nelson Sweeny and Richard Ferry were the early leaders but Gainey was not to be denied in copping his first win of the young season on the half-mile oval. Ferry claimed runner-up honors over Ray Wheeler, Robert Young and Bill Hopson.
The Florida modified field was small but determined and Ferry was the top dog in that 20 lap affair ahead of Roger Webb and Red Vann.
The 20 lap street stock event was a dog fight from lap one with five different leaders but it was Tim Conrad who grabbed the lead from Jason Garver on the final circuit for the victory. Jeff Prescott, Brad Fiene and Gale Grayer rounded out the top five.
Marty Wood proved to be the best of the pure stocks topping Matt Stafford, Harry Stickle, Jason Parker and Dewey McClellan in the 20 lap headliner. Have an opinion on this story? Post a message on our Message Board! or send a letter to the editor!
