by Danny Snow After the Mid-Season Championship break and a few rained out weekends we finally had the pleasure of enjoying a full nights racing.
The green flag dropped for the Shirleys Bookkeeping Rebel Road Warriors eight lap heat race with #68 Al Welling of N. Ft. Myers on the pole. #68H John Hanuschik of Cape Coral took the lead on the first lap but #3B John Boyer of Cape Coral took the spot on the third lap. #3B Boyer held on for the win followed by #9S Taz Sidock of Cape Coral in second and #55 Conrad Molter of Naples in third.
The first six lap heat for the Lees Auto Detail & Transmission Pure Stocks got underway with #22 Kevin Murphy on the pole. #10 Eric Smith took the lead on the first lap but it was #2 David Fischer out in front when the checkered flag flew. #91X John Plakiotis took second followed by #56 Walt Korkiner in third.
Heat two began and ended with #99 Mark Collins on the pole in this all green flag race. #99 Collins was followed by #38 Joe Reese in second and #7 Danny Caylor in third.
Heat number one of the Hendrys Mango Maniacs Cowboy Cadillacs started with #7 Bryan Maine on the pole. #46J Jay Bryant took over the lead at the half way point hand held on for the win. #44 Raymond Tucker took second followed by #7 Maine in third.
#24 Justin Bryant sat on the pole for the second heat. #2 Gene Pack shot out in front on the drop of the green and held position for the win followed by #37 Cheryl Weaver in second and #24 Bryant in third.
#99 Jason Kuykendall of Port Charlotte sat on the pole for the Little Vics Concessions Modified Minis heat race. #96 Frank Welch of N. Ft. Myers took the lead on the first lap and held on to take the win. #3 Danny Yates of Cape Coral took second followed by #05 Richard Sirmans of Pinellas Park in third.
The first heat for the K & S Transport, Inc. Open Wheel Modifieds got underway with #63 Phil Morrison on the pole. #63 Morrison held position to take the win followed by #95 Chris Turner of Naples in a close second and #2H David Hartin in third.
The second heat began with #31 Kurt Riley of Cape Coral on the pole. Lap three saw #80 Chris Dean of Ft. Myers take the lead. #80 Dean held on for the win followed by #55 Dan Atwell of Naples in second and #31 Riley in third.
Thirteen cars lined up for heat one of the Lees Auto Repair Road Warriors with #11 Robert Hendry on the pole. When the green flag dropped it was four cars wide down the front stretch, but not for long. The caution came out and by the time the race was back underway there were only nine cars left to finish the race. #2 Lonnie Retherford had the point for the restart. #31 Scott Barnes took the lead on lap five and held on for the win. #2 Retherford took second followed by #14 Rick Gill in third.
Thirteen more cars lined up for the second heat with #42X Trey Almond on the pole. It was all green flag racing for this heat with #42X Almond holding position for the win followed by #28 Joe Bossey in second and #61 Chris Oncken in third.
The Kix Country Sportsman division was up next with their fifty lap feature race with #8 Raymond Jones of Arcadia on the pole. #8 Jones put a lot of track between himself and the number two position held by #107 Jim Keating of Bonita Springs, while #20 George Ellsworth of Ft. Myers and #67 James DuBose of Arcadia battled it out for third. Lap thirty nine saw #67 DuBose move into the second place position. #8 Jones held on for the win followed by #67 DuBose in second and #107 Keating in third.
#68H John Hanuschik sat on the pole of the Shirleys Bookkeeping Rebel Road Warriors twenty lap feature race. #74 Chuck Stevens of Ft. Myers and #68H Hanuschik got together on the drop of the green. Hanuschik went to the pits, but managed to come back out on lap fifteen. #3B John Boyer took an early lead in the race, but by lap eight it was #55 Conrad Molter out in front. #55 Molter held on for the win followed by #3B Boyer in second and #9S Taz Sidock in third.
The Lees Auto Detail & Transmission Pure Stocks twenty five lap feature got underway with #56 Walt Korkiner on the pole. #31X Elbert Butts and #11 Doug Spitzer got together on the drop of the green bringing out a caution and a complete restart. On lap five, #49B Joe Butler challenged #56 Korkiner for the lead but was unsuccessful. #91X lost steering coming out of turn four ending his night. On the restart #49B Butler and #99 Mark Collins got together. Collins caught the wall under the flag stand. His right rear tire exploded on impact, sending him sideways into the turn one wall. Collins was all right, but his night was over. #56 Korkiner had the point on the restart, but went wide in turn two. #38 Joe Reese had moved up from back in the pack and took the lead. Reese held on for the win followed by #19 Greg Anderson who came up from the back to take second. #11X Mike Getts had started in last place and made his way up to take third.
Ten trucks lined up for the Hendrys Mango Maniacs Cowboy Cadillacs twenty lap feature with # 7 Bryan Maine on the pole. # 33 Don Van Acker took the lead on first lap in this quick and clean race. #2 Gene Pack moved into the second place position on lap seven while #37 Cheryl Weaver and # 73M Richard Martin were making their way up through the pack. # 33 Van Acker held on for the win followed by #2 Pack in second and #37 Weaver in third.
The Little Vics Concessions Modified Minis started their twenty lap feature with #99 Jason Kuykendall on the pole. #96 Frank Welch took the early lead with #3 Danny Yates a close second. #99 Kuykendall spun on lap eight, but by lap twelve he had made his way back up to third place. #96 Welch took the win followed by #3 Yates in second and #99 Kuykendall in third.
The K & S Transport Open Wheel Modifieds thirty five lap feature got underway with #63 Phil Morrison on the pole. #74 brought out a caution on lap fourteen when his clutch assembly let go on the front stretch scattering parts all the way in to turn one. #63 Morrison was still on point for the restart with #95 Chris Turner in second and #80 Chris Dean in third. Even though a couple more cautions brought the field together, the top three positions were set. #63 Morrison held on for the win followed by #95 Turner in second and #80 Dean in third.
Twenty six cars started the Lees Auto Repair Road Warriors twenty lap feature with #11 Robert Hendry on the pole. The first caution flew on lap three bunching up the thundering herd for a restart with #2 Lonnie Retherford on point. The lead went to #4 Bruce Allen on lap five, then to #M00 Bob Williams on lap thirteen just before another caution came out. With just one lap to go, #36H Brent Hewitt smacked the outside wall in turn two, bunching up the pack and bringing out the Mackies Auto Wrecker Service and the all volunteer broom crew. #M00 Williams still had the point for the one lap dash for the checkered flag and held his position for the win. #4 Allen took second followed by #31 Scott Barns in third.
