Double Feature Night at Columbia

by Marty Little
LAKE CITY, Fla. - Eddie Gainey picked up right where he left off in June as he scored a pair of wins in the late model stock mains Saturday night at Columbia Motorsports Park. In the make up 50 lapper, Gainey grabbed the lead from division newcomer Gale Grayer on lap 11 and never looked back as he sped to the checkers. Grayer held steady and took runner-up honors ahead of Al Beckleheimer, Jr., Jason Garver and Jerome Brown.

In the regular 25 lapper Eric Williams and Jay Middleton lead early but Gainey, who came from 17th, took the top spot on lap 19 and went to his second win of the evening. Middleton, Mark Mitchell, Williams and Chris Tedder trailed at the stripe.

In the twin 20s for the Florida modifieds it was all Roger Webb as he annexed both main events on the half-mile oval. In the first run Webb took command on lap seven from Gene Owen and motored away for the victory ahead of Larry Martin. Owen, Greg Nordstrom and Shannon Smith chased the lead duo to the line.

The night cap saw Webb come from the rear of the field to lead on lap 19 and hit the checkers first ahead of Johnson, Owen, Nordstrom and Shawn Taylor.

The street stocks saw a brand new winner in Brad Fiene as he took over from Tim Conrad on lap 19 to register his first career triumph. Michael Faulk, Nick Reid, Conrad and Charles Seroki chased Fiene to the line in the 20 lap make up event.

In the night's regular 20 lapper it was Prescott the man with the plan as he took command when Swain Norris spun on lap 16. Faulk again followed for second money ahead of Conrad, Ray Wheeler and John Mitchell.

William Jerkins and L.H. Davis split the wins in the pure stocks with Danny Coleman and Clay McRae chasing Jerkins in the opener while Jerkins and Coleman trailed Davis in the second event.
