Gainey Wins Two At Columbia!

by Marty Little

Eddie Gainey rang up another double Saturday night at Columbia Motorsports Park as he copped both the late model sportsman and street stock feature events on the half-mile oval.

Gainey grabbed the lead on the opening lap and led all 12 laps to top Jason Garver and Gene Owen in the abreviated LMS headliner. In the street stocks Shane Taylor led to lap 12 before he and Brad Fiene tangled with both going to the rear of the field. Gainey took over at that point and sped to his first division win this season in the 20 lap event. Trailing at the checkers were Jeff Prescott, Nick Reid, Dave Barber, Jr and John Mithcell.

Brad Nixon paced the first four rounds of the pure stock 20 lap run but from then on it was William Jerkins as he racked up another victory. Nixon, Clay McRae, Anthony Crain and Danny Coleman were next to the stripe.

The visiting Classic Race Cars feature event fell to Eddie Thornton over early leader Jim Rahman and Ed Yates.
