Six Pack Races Go To Turner and Fox

by Dan Snow

The night's action began with the first heat for the Lee's Auto Detail & Transmission Pure Stocks. #22 Kevin Murphy of Ft. Myers had the pole but had to pit on the first lap. #49 Christine Gibson of Lehigh Acres took the lead with #91X John Plakiotis right behind her. Gibson and Plakiotis held a nice lead on the rest of the pack throughout the race. #49 Gibson took the win followed by #91X Plakiotis in second and #3 Loren Rosenthal of Ft. Myers in third.

Heat two began with #2 David Fischer of Naples on the pole. #19 Greg Anderson of Port Charlotte took the lead after four laps of hard racing trying to get around Fischer. Anderson held on for the win followed by #7 Danny Caylor in a close second place and #2 Fischer in third.

Heat one of the Lee's Auto Repair Road Warriors got underway with #11 Robert Hendry of N. Ft. Myers on the pole. #10 Mark Regner of N. Ft. Myers smacked the wall coming out of turn two on the first lap and had to pit with a flat tire, but made it back out for the race. On the restart, #35 Ron Dushek of Lehigh Acres did a little spin going in to turn one. #9 Gary Miller of Englewood charged out for a commanding lead and held on for the win. #4 Bruce Allen of Naples took second followed by #59 Jim Kaczynski of Cape Coral in third.

#29 Derck Ficarra of Englewood had the pole for the second heat. It was three-wide racing through turns one and two when the green flag dropped, but Ficarra steadily moved away from the rest securing his win. #M00 Bob Williams of Naples and #82 Billy Lentz of Ft. Myers Beach battled over second place, spending much of the race side by side. #29 Ficarra held on for the win followed by #M00 Williams in second and #82 Lentz in third.

Eighteen cars lined up for the Budweiser Open Wheel Modified 6-Pack # 3 fifty lap feature with #31 Kurt Riley of Cape Coral sitting on the pole. #72 James DuBose took the lead on the first lap but by lap three it was #95 Chris Turner of Naples out in front. After a caution on lap twenty six, #80 Chris Dean of Ft. Myers was anxious to move into second place but #72 DuBose didn't let go of the position. The yellow flag came out again with only five laps to go in the race, bunching up the field and triggering even more cautions as everyone fought for position. #95 Turner held on for the win followed by #72 DuBose in second and #80 Dean in third.

The Circle One, Inc. Limited Late Models 6-Pack # 3 one hundred lap feature got underway with #29 Mike "the Hobo" Hovis of N. Ft. Myers on the pole. After a caution on lap twenty seven, Hovis was still out in front with #4 Randy "Hondo" Fox of Lehigh Acres in second and #1 Johnny "Action" Jackson of Ellenton in third. Lap thirty six saw Jackson sent to the rear after bumping #43 Glen Morris of Bokeelia. Morris ended up in the pits and done for the night. #29 Hovis was still in the lead on the forty second lap restart with #4 Fox holding second and #34 Jeff Durfresne of Ft. Myers now in third, but on lap fifty Hovis broke down and had to pit. After leading the first fifty laps of the race, that had to be a disapointment. After a caution on lap fifty three, #4 Fox is in the lead with #51 Richie Anderson of N. Ft. Myers in second and #62 Buzz Martin of Lehigh Acres in third. For the last five laps the battle was on for third place. #1 Jackson had made his way back up and was holding third with #34 Durfresne trying hard to take it away. #4 Fox took the win followed by #51 Anderson in second and #34 Durfresne who passed Jackson on the last lap to take third.

#49 Christine Gibson sat on the pole for the Lee's Auto Detail & Transmission Pure Stock twenty five lap feature. It was all green flag racing until lap twenty three when the only caution came out due to lapped traffic. When the green flag flew again for a two lap shoot out, Gibson still had the point with #7 Danny Caylor, who had moved up from the middle of the pack, in second and #91X John Plakiotis in third. Everyone was on the edge of their seats as the cars rounded turn four of the final lap with Caylor and Gibson side by side. #7 Caylor took the win by about a bumper with #49 Gibson in second and #91X Plakiotis in third.

Twenty six cars lined up for the Kix Country Sportsman fifty lap feature with #18 Craig Amboyan of Port Charlotte on the pole. After a caution on lap thirteen, #22 Danny Yates of Cape Coral took the lead on the restart with #18 Amboyan in second and #E38 Ralph Goddard of Naples in third. Lap twenty four saw #8 Raymond Jones of Arcadia go under #18 Amboyan to take over second. By lap thirty four, Jones had taken over the lead with #22 Yates in second and #23 Butch Murray of N. Ft. Myers in the third place spot. #8 Jones held on for the win followed by #22 Yates in second and #18 Amboyan in third.

The Lee's Auto Repair Road Warriors twenty five lap feature got underway with #9 Gary Miller on the pole. As Miller and #7 Jonathan Abraham of Cape Coral fought over the top spot, #73 Del Beckner of Naples and #27 Terry Price of Punta Gorda were moving their way up from the back of the pack and #29 Derck Ficarra was making his way up from the middle. After a caution on lap fifteen, #7 Abraham had the point on the restart but by the next lap it was #73 Beckner out in front. Beckner held on for the win followed by #29 Ficarra in second and #27 Price in third.
