Dirt NLMS Series Invades Columbia | by Marty Little LAKE CITY, Fla. - The stars and cars of the National Late Model Sportsman series for dirt cars invaded the paved high banks of Columbia Motorsports Park Saturday night and it was veteran Everett Phillips, in a great late race drive, who won the 50 lap feature event. Jason Hilton blasted from his front row starting position with the field in tow and quickly Keith Edge became a challenger as the duo zipped around the banked oval. Phillips, with plenty of laps under his belt here, began to reel in the leaders and the laps quickly ticked off. Edge's mount failed on lap 40 and now it was Hilton and Phillips digging for top honors. Using a dramatic move on lap 47, Phillips darted to the low side of Hilton and came out with the lead which he held to the checkers. Hilton claimed runner-up honors over aslphat convert Mike Franklin, Jr, Gene Ross and Jimmy Sharpe. The second five consisted of Stacy Roberts, Cecil Eunice, Gene Maine, Skip Panell and Charles Sealy.
In support division action, Charles Seroki topped the 20 lap Street Stock main with a heady run over John Mitchell, Nick Reid, early leader Gale Grayer and Randall Jackson. Greg Cook paced the first eight laps of the 20 lap Pure Stock headliner until he ran off the track and William Jerkins took command and hustled to the win. Jerry Fortner, Danny Coleman, Nevin Gainey and Trish Berry chased the fleet Jerkins to the stripe. Have an opinion on this story? Post a message on our Message Board! or send a letter to the editor!
