Oral Tanner takes Columbia Street Stock Trophy

LAKE CITY, Fla. - For the second consecutive week Eddie Gainey worked past Michael Haigh on lap eight and blasted to victory in the 25 lap late model stock feature event at Columbia Motorsports Park. Using the outside lane to his advantage, Gainey set sail once in front and outran Nelson Sweeny, Eric Williams, Haigh and Harold Rankin enroute to the checkers.

The street stock main proved the most exciting of the evening as Oral Tanner led every one of the 20 circuits around the high banked half-mile oval. Just off Tanner's rear bumper the action was fast and furious with spots being exchange every lap by four other competitors. Charles Seroki finally worked himself into position to make a run at Tanner and coming off turn with the checkers in sight Seroki blasted outside in his bid but came up a foot short at the line. Nick Reid, Shane Taylor and Gale Grayer, in tight formation, were next to the stripe.

Sixteen year-old Brad Nixon looked like a winner in the pure stock finale but with three laps remaining he was overhauled by the train as Danny Coleman took the win with a late charge. William Jerkins, L.H. Davis, early leader Greg Cook and Nixon rounded out the top five. The Florida modified ran a special match race with Shannon Smith the victor.
