Mitchell takes Columbia Pure Stock Victory

LAKE CITY, FL - Veteran Eddie Gainey worked his home track magic once again on Saturday night as he blasted around leader Michael Haigh on lap seven to score a convincing win in the 25-lap Late Model Stock feature at Columbia Motorsports Park. Haigh and Doyle Boatwright ran one-two for the first half dozen circuits before Gainey, using the high groove, drove around them both to grab the lead.

A yellow waved for Boatwright as his car caught fire. On the restart, Shannon Adams took the runner-up slot and they ran to the checkers in that order ahead of Haigh, Harold Rankin and Chris Tedder.

No one had anything for former Florida modified champion J.F. McClellan as he topped the Open Wheel runners with ease in the 20-lap run. Gary Southard gave chase, but settled for runner-up money over Roger Webb, Gene Owen and Rick McManaway.

Dave Barber, Jr. paced the opening lap of the 20 lap Street Stock event. By lap two, it was John Mitchell out front and he never looked back, enroute to the victory. Shane Taylor turned in a good run for second spot ahead of Nick Reid, Charles Seroki and Gale Grayer.

William Jerkins won, lost, then won again in the 20-lap Pure Stock feature. Jerkins paced the first 19 laps until getting boxed in traffic on the last lap as L.H. Davis snuck past for the lead and eventual win. Post-race inspection sent Davis home minus the victory as Jerkins was credited with the win over Harry Stickle, Brad Nixon, and Troy Davis, no relation to the disqaulfiied L.H.
