by Marty Little Veteran David Weaver wasted no time in getting to the front and led all 25 laps to win the late model sportsman headliner Saturday night at Hialeah Speedway.
The speedway honored Dale Earnhardt with a moving hour-long tribute before racing action got underway. Weaver built a huge lead as he sped to his first victory of the season over Bobby Shelton, Kendrick Gomez, Joe Winchell and points leader Danny Maddox.
An elated Gary Padula made it a wire to wire run in the street stock 25 lap event as he was never seriously challenged. Rick Lutz gave chase but settled for second ahead of Mike Orth, Chalo DeCastro and Michael Kohut.
David Russell grabbed the lead from Bill Calder on the third lap and ran to his second victory of the season in the mini stock 25 lappper. Buddy Sizemore close in on Russell and turned up the pressure in the late laps but came up a few feet short at the line. Calder checkered third over Scott Rogers and Richard Thomas.
A season high 39 cars took the green flag in the cyclone 50 lap main with Mike Powers on the point to the halfway mark. One bobble in turn two saw Roger Bohannon duck beneath Powers for the lead which he held to the checkers. Powers claimed runner-up money ahead of point leader Roger Pfau, Troy Wright and Frank Kelliher.
Doug Capps topped the mini cup 10 lap feature ahead of Chris Heilmann and Carlos Gonzales.
