TOM ROOT TAKES MODIFIED WIN AT ORLANDO, ROGERS WINS SECOND LEG OF TRIPLE CROWN

Friday night at Orlando SpeedWorld was the last night
of the regular points season for the Open Wheel
Modifieds only. With the running of the second
leg of the Triple Crown, only feature races were
run for the Mods, Super Stocks and Strictly Stocks.
We also had the great pleasure of the always thrilling
and exciting 911 Racing. These guys put on a great
show and the fans love the lights and the sirens.

Jason Boyd, in the #2x, sat on the pole for the last
race of the 2001 points season. Tom Root, #19, was
on the outside of him and it was a two way battle
for the lead. Jason had it but after a caution,
something happened to Jason's car and he had to be
pushed off the track. Then it was Tom Root and the
#57 of Jim "Hoot" Flynn going side by side with
Root keeping the lead. Also Frank Polly, #34, and
Shane Held, #55, put on a great show and super
ending as they went side by side for the third place
spot never touching each other. Held did a great
job of just beating Polly to the finish and taking
third. Bill Gunn, #13, made a rare appearance and
came in fifth. Top five were: 1. Tom Root #19,
2. Jim "Hoot" Flynn #57, 3. Shane Held #55, 4.
Frank Polly #34 and 5. Bill Gunn #13.

The Super Stocks saw the #44 of Bob Beiler on the pole
and leading until the #36 of Timmie Russell decided it
was time for his second win in the 2001 season. Russell
did a very good job of holding on to his lead inspite
of having the #11 of Duane Freed right behind him. Jeff
Wright #50 and the previous winner of the last race did
a great job of coming from the rear of the pack to take
a fourth place finish. Top five were: 1. Timmie Russell
#36, 2. Duane Freed #11, 3. Carl Peters #1, 4. Jeff
Wright #50, 5. Bill Loomis #67.

In the Strictly Stocks, it was the #27 of Barry Parks
winning over the hard charging #100 of John MacArthur.
Charlie Pitts did a great job in the #5 taking third and
David Smith in the #48 got fourth. The #0 car of Michael
Seay rounded out the top five. Great race for these guys.

Next week at Orlando SpeedWorld will be the Pro Modified
Race and final points night for all divisions except
Modifieds which finished their's November 9.
