Gainey wins LMS Victory at Columbia

LAKE CITY, Fla. - Young Jay Middleton closed out the regular season at Columbia Motorsports Park with a strong win in the 25 lap late model stock feature Saturday night. In a hard fought run Middleton was the fourth and final leader and lead Don Hale, Jr., Roy Crain, Richard Tucker and Todd Franz to the stripe on a very cold evening. Eddie Gainey won the LMS title.

New division champion Mike Bennett topped the Florida modified 25 lap main with a good drive over Roger Webb, Gene Owen, Mike Batten and Shawn Taylor.

In the closest points race here in years, the street stock title was up for grabs on this last night of the season. Tim Conrad bested Gale Grayer for the win but third finishing Nick Reid beat Charles Seroki to the stripe and Reid became the champion. Leslie Keller rounded out the top five finishers.

For the second consecutive week L.H. Davis was the pure stock winner, this time over Harry Stickle, Marty Wood, Michael Scheffield and Jimmy Schoening with William Jerkins the new champion.

Susan Wheeler was the powder puff winner for the second year. The season-ending awards were given out following the night's races.
