Gainey rebuilds a Winner at Columbia

by Marty Little
LAKE CITY, Fla. - Working all week to rebuild his car, Eddie Gainey took the lead on lap five and sped to the win in the 25 lap late model stock feature Saturday night at Columbia Motorsports Park. Jeff Prescott paced the first four rounds before Gainey got past engaging in a furrious battle with Pete Richardson. Gainey kept his advantage to the stripe over Richardson, Kevin Durden, Prescott and Fain Skinner.

Roger Webb took the lead from Rick McManaway on lap 14 and went on to win the 20 lap Florida modified headliner. McManaway kept the pressure on to claim runner-up money over Mike Bennett, newcomer Matt Walker and Lee Faulk.

The 20 lap street stock main found Ray Wheeler and Dave Barber the early leaders but by lap 11 Prescott was in command and sped to his third win of the season ahead of Nick Reid, Brad Fiene, Michael Faulk and Barber.

Pure stock powerhouse William Jerkins waited until lap eight before taking command as he blasted to his 10th win this season. Nevin Gainey, L.H. Davis, Matt Stafford and Anthony Crain rounded out the top five runners.

On tap this week (9-15) is the annual Gaylon Roberts Memorial for the late model stock runners.
